VALORANT Patch 12.04: Killjoy Turret rework, UI overhaul, and more
VALORANT Patch 12.04 might not be a headline-grabber, but it’s a meaningful quality-of-life update. Riot is using this patch to smooth out everyday friction points with Agent usability tweaks, a sizeable PC UI refresh, and a long-awaited performance fix. Here’s what changed.
Killjoy turret placement gets a QOL upgrade
The biggest gameplay change in Patch 12.04 belongs to Killjoy. Turret placement now follows the same casting paradigm as Sage’s Barrier Orb: you can rotate the Turret during placement by holding ALT-FIRE, while the ACTIVATE button now swaps Turret direction instead.
It’s a small change with big implications. Previously, Killjoy players often had to shuffle their own position just to get the right angle, which could cost seconds (and sometimes your life) during a fast hit or late retake. Now you can fine-tune coverage on the fly.
Sova also received new voice lines this patch, a minor but welcome touch for one of VALORANT’s most-picked Agents.
Agent bug fixes in Patch 12.04
Riot also shipped a solid batch of fixes across multiple Agents:
- Killjoy: Fixed Nanoswarm invisibility issues triggered by fast movement or suppression; fixed the minimap vision cone disappearing on right-click
- Jett: Fixed Drift’s passive gliding SFX being audible through Astra’s Cosmic Divide
- Harbor: Fixed Storm Surge persisting into the next round if cast at the last second
- Fade: Fixed Nightfall’s minimap indicator being slightly smaller than the actual ability radius
- Chamber: Fixed Trademark playing its reactivation SFX twice when Suppress expired on Chamber
- Skye: Fixed an observer-side issue where Seekers didn’t appear on the minimap when Skye was attacking
Map updates: Breeze collision and geometry clean-up
Breeze received collision improvements that allow Vyse’s Arc Rose and Cypher’s Spycam to be placed on walls, alongside several minor art fixes. Riot also made small geometry adjustments across multiple maps to remove unintended gaps in common, high-traffic areas.
End-of-game and Career UI redesigned (PC)
PC players are getting a noticeable visual overhaul to several key screens. The End of Game screen now ships updated Progression, Summary, and Timeline tabs with a refreshed layout.
Competitive matches also now feed into a new Rank Summary screen, breaking down RR gains and losses in a clearer way. Riot has also redesigned the Career and Friends’ Career pages to make performance history and friends’ stats easier to browse at a glance.
Progression Hub replaces the Battlepass tab
Patch 12.04 also changes navigation at the top level: the Battlepass tab has been replaced by a new Progression tab. Clicking it opens the Progression Hub, which centralizes Battlepass progress, weekly missions, active event passes, and other progression tracks in one place.
It’s a practical consolidation that cuts down on menu-diving when you’re checking rewards or planning what to finish before reset.
Performance Fixes
After Patch 12.03, some players reported significant stuttering. Riot previously shipped a hotfix that helped partially, and Patch 12.04 now includes a more complete fix aimed at resolving the issue more reliably.
Premier Changes
Premier’s next stage (V26A2) begins at the start of Act 2 in Patch 12.05, with matches starting Wednesday, March 18. This stage runs six weeks instead of the usual seven.
To qualify for Playoffs on April 16, teams will need a Premier Score of at least 500.
Other Known Issues
One known issue remains: the scroll wheel currently doesn’t work when navigating Battlepass or event pass tiers. Riot has confirmed a fix is planned for Patch 12.05.
Patch 12.04 is ultimately about making VALORANT feel cleaner moment-to-moment: fewer bugs, better navigation, and improved performance without dramatically changing anything. These are the patches you notice most when you stop noticing the game getting in your way.
