VALORANT Patch 12.05: Miks joins the roster, agent nerfs, map changes, and more
VALORANT's Patch 12.05 marks the beginning of Act 2 with a wave of sweeping updates — introducing a brand-new Croatian Controller, rebalancing some of the game's most dominant agents, revamping how assists are displayed, and shaking up the competitive map pool.
Meet Miks: VALORANT's Newest Controller
The headline addition of Patch 12.05 is Miks, a Controller agent hailing from Croatia who wields the power of pure sound energy. Built around the concept of coordinated teamplay, Miks is designed to be the ultimate team-first pick in the Controller slot, rewarding players who synchronize with their squad. He begins rolling out globally at 10:00 AM PST on March 18.

Agent Balance Updates
Patch 12.05's balance philosophy explicitly targets agents who are too strong in isolation, in favor of encouraging team-dependent play.
Yoru
Yoru has been crowding out flash Initiators and even Sentinels in higher ranks and Pro play, particularly due to his dominant combination of Gatecrash and Blindside. The dev team identified him as bleeding into other roles and hurting composition diversity.
- Gatecrash: Duration of the beacon being active reduced from 30s to 15s
- Blindside: Charges reduced from 2 to 1
These changes force Yoru to make more deliberate and costly decisions about when to use his strongest tools throughout the round.
Clove
Clove has maintained an ever-present presence in ranked since launch with a notably high win rate. The adjustments specifically target Clove's outsized ability to help their team after dying, a mechanic the dev team believes was too powerful.
- Ruse: Smoke duration while dead reduced from 14s to 6s
- Meddle: Area of Effect reduced from 6m to 4m
Skye
With the removal of initiator utility cooldowns being reassessed, Skye's Guiding Light has received a new 60-second cooldown. Coming from no recharge, this is most certainly a buff. Previously at 45s, the threshold offered little downside to using the flash at round start purely for soft scouting. The 60s duration forces Skye players to be far more intentional about when they deploy the ability.
Sage
Miks also brings a new Ally Targeting UI/UX, which has also been applied to Sage's Healing Orb. The updated system shows a new widget above the targeted ally's head plus an additional highlight around the agent's model for greater clarity mid-fight.
Beyond the targeting UI update, Sage also received a visual model update featuring crystal growths on her model and key art, reflecting the toll her powers are taking on her in VALORANT's ongoing storyline. Breach additionally received new voice lines this patch.
Gameplay Systems
The 12.05 update introduces a series of HUD improvements designed to surface and reward coordinated play, not just frags.
Assist Banners
A new Assist Banner now appears at the bottom of your screen whenever your utility or damage contributes to a teammate's kill. The banner displays your specific contribution and is paired with an audio cue, giving assists the on-screen recognition they've long deserved.
Killfeed Updates
The killfeed has also been updated to display the assisting player's agent icon and the ability or damage type that set up the kill. This information is visible to your team only, making it easier to see how coordinated plays come together in real time.
Status Effect Tags
Status effect indicators on the HUD have been reorganized for clarity. When multiple effects are active simultaneously, buffs now appear on the left and debuffs on the right, giving players a consistent, predictable reference point during chaotic fights.
Additionally, Ability Map Targeters (such as Clove's Ruse, Brimstone's Sky Smoke, and Tejo's Guided Salvo) are now visible to observers, spectators, and in Replays.
Map Pool & Lotus Changes
The competitive map pool has been rotated for Act 2:
- IN: Lotus, Fracture
- OUT: Abyss, Corrode
Lotus returns to the pool with a series of targeted A-site changes aimed at reducing weapon spam and improving the overall feel of the map.
Key changes include:
- Attacker lobby wall thickened to remove wall penetration off barrier drop.
- Jump up to Vines repositioned to help attackers exit the lobby and avoid utility dumps.
- Wall outside Tree room reinforced to remove wall penetration.
- Extra room added outside A-site stairs to give defenders the ability to hold further back from rubble
- A-site plant zone adjusted so players can no longer plant for the breakable/link position
New Mode: Knockout
Replacing the departing All Random One Site (AROS) and Skirmish: 2v2, the new Limited Time Mode is Knockout, a round-based tactical elimination mode where kills bring back fallen teammates.

Premier & Competitive Updates (PC only)
Premier Stage V26A2 kicks off March 18 and runs for six weeks (one fewer than usual). Teams need a minimum Premier Score of 500 to qualify for Playoffs on April 26.
On the ranked side, Ranked Rating thresholds for Immortal 2, Immortal 3, and Radiant have been adjusted to create parity across leaderboards in all regions. The underlying MMR systems remain unchanged, so the same caliber of players should be reaching the leaderboard. A QoL update to the Rank Summary screen introduced in patch 12.04 now allows you to access the Social Panel and hit Play Now directly from that screen.
Bug Fixes
Notable bugs addressed this patch include:
- Floating gun briefly appearing when suppression interrupted Gekko's Thrash, Sova's Owl Drone, or Astra's Astral Form.
- Veto's Interceptor incorrectly detecting a stealthed Cypher Spycam.
- Harbor's relic not glowing when equipping Storm Surge in Left Handed Mode.
- Deadlock's Barrier Mesh being used to float above Fracture's Attacker spawn ziplines.
- Multiple localization and UI issues on the End of Game scoreboard.
Patch 12.05 is one of the bigger updates VALORANT has seen in recent memory, touching nearly every pillar of the game at once. The arrival of Miks injects a much-needed fresh dynamic into the Controller meta, while the nerfs to Yoru and Clove should meaningfully open up agent selection diversity in both ranked and pro play. Throw in a revamped Lotus, a new limited-time mode in Knockout, and competitive map pool changes, and Patch 12.05 sets a high bar for Act 2. All eyes now turn to how the pro scene adapts, especially with Miks entering the conversation as a potential meta-defining pick.
