VALORANT reveals new map "Summit" set to launch on June 24
VALORANT is getting its newest map, and it's unlike anything the game has seen before. Summit—a 5v5 battleground set within a Radiant training academy high in the mountains of China—is set to launch on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, bringing a brand-new mechanical twist to competitive play.
What exactly is the new VALORANT map?
Summit is a standard two-site, three-lane map, but its defining feature sets it apart from every other map in the pool: droppable walls. Located on A-site, B-site, and Mid, these walls can be triggered during a round to permanently cut off key sightlines and rotation paths for the remainder of that round.
This single mechanic fundamentally changes how teams approach both attacking and defending. Dropping a wall mid-round can deny a rotation, isolate a flank, or lock down a bombsite—turning a defensive hold into a calculated gamble and forcing teams to commit to reads before they normally would. Expect coordinated wall drops to become a cornerstone of high-level Summit strategy.
The Lore Behind Summit
Summit is an addition to VALORANT's expanding narrative universe. The map is set in a world-renowned Radiant training academy built to help Radiants from across the globe understand and refine their abilities. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure designed to withstand Radiant powers firsthand.
Most notably, Summit carries deep personal significance: it was formerly the site of the Radiant monastery where Sage herself studied before joining the VALORANT Protocol. For lore enthusiasts and casual players alike, this adds a rich layer of context to every corner of the map.
Ranked Launch and RR Protection
Summit will be available in Competitive queue immediately on launch day, which is a welcome move for players eager to grind the new map. To ease the learning curve, Riot is implementing a two-week RR protection window:
- Players lose 50% less RR on Summit losses during the first two weeks
- Players still earn 100% RR on Summit wins
- A Summit Only queue will be live for the first 7 days, using the Swiftplay format for faster game sessions
This structure gives ranked players a genuine incentive to practice Summit competitively without the anxiety of hard deranking on an unfamiliar map.
When Can You Play Summit?
Summit goes live on June 24, 2026, alongside the new act update. Whether you're diving into ranked or the Summit Only queue, there's plenty of new content to dig into at launch.
