Valyn explains what challenges do the region’s best team face, why VALORANT feels “simple” for G2 Esports
Over the past year, G2 Esports has solidified its place at the apex of VCT Americas, winning Kickoff vs. the region’s beloved Sentinels squad, just coming up short at VCT 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025, and finally, ending the VCT 2025 - Americas Stage 1 group stage undefeated after a barnburner of a match vs. Cloud9.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
At their core, the roster has built an extremely strong winning culture with a focus on constant improvement, especially since they are sitting in the crosshairs of every team in the league. It is a challenge that Valyn believes the roster has fully embraced, and it keeps them motivated to keep innovating and finding ways to become a better version of themselves.
“We have this mindset right now that every team is gonna be gunning for our heads because G2 is the team to beat,” Valyn explained. “We showed to be the best team in NA, so now all the teams want to try to take that throne. These matches have been very difficult, so we have to try to level up our game even more to account for that.”
He was also grateful that the games weren’t just blowouts for G2, and that they were “blessed to have those close games because [they] can learn from it and never feel too comfortable if [they’re] just blowing everyone out.” Complacency can always be a sneaky issue to run into, especially if the level of competition isn’t challenging enough.
For example, in their match vs. C9, G2 ended up losing their map pick in a rather lopsided fashion. It was a humbling moment where the team had to regroup and reset for map three, which ended up being the closest game of the series. These minor setbacks throughout the stage have helped G2 hone their playstyle and continue evolving to become the best.
Seeing the game differently
When asked about the state of VALORANT’s utility, and the current discussion around how overwhelming abilities can be in the game, Valyn said that the issue has been overblown “by players that don't know how to adapt, or don't want to face adaptation.”
VALORANT in general from the start has always been a game of constant adaptation. It's not like a game like [Counter Strike] where it's about refinement and perfection. There's different ways to approach this game and I think humans in general don't like adaptation, so these players need to learn that you just gotta accept it and mov
In fact, Valyn even explained that due to G2’s strong fundamental understanding of the current meta, the game feels “I don't wanna say easy, because that sounds cocky, but it [feels] simple.” He continued to say that players need to do their due diligence when it comes to preparing and understanding setups, and possible ability combos.
G2 has become a global powerhouse in the VALORANT scene for a reason, and if they continue improving, they will truly become the main character when Masters Toronto arrives. If you want more interviews and VCT coverage, stay locked in with THESPIKE.GG.
