VCT Pacific 2025 Stage 2 playoffs preview and predictions
After four weeks of intense group stage play, the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Stage 2 has whittled down the competition to the finest eight teams. They now stand just a few matches away from claiming the Pacific region’s final trophy of the season. And for several, a last-ditch ticket to VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions. Here’s an inside look at the contenders, storylines, opening matchups, and what fans can expect as the action kicks off on Wednesday, August 13.
Format and Bracket Structure
The playoffs continue with the double-elimination bracket format, rewarding the best group stage performers with a significant advantage:
- Group Winners: Advance directly to Upper Bracket Semifinals.
- 2nd & 3rd Place Teams: Enter Upper Bracket Round 1.
- 4th Place Teams: Begin in Lower Bracket Round 1.
Each playoff duel (apart from the grand finals) will be decided in Bo3 series, making every map a pressure-cooker for teams fighting for survival or glory.
Group Stage Recap:
DRX and Paper Rex are the ones taking the top spot from either group, with their impressive 4-1 records. Both teams also have a similar map win record, with DRX only dropping one extra map compared to PRX. These two "rhyming partners" will start off their playoffs journey from the Upper Bracket Semifinals, where they have earned some rest and preparation time for their first opponents.
The second and third spots from each group were taken by Rex Regum Qeon, Nongshim RedForce, TALON and T1. These four teams will face off against each other in the first round of playoffs and this is going to decide how the rest of their playoffs runs will go. The winners will face off against DRX and PRX, while the losers will face off against the following opponents.
The final spots in the groups were taken by Gen.G Esports and DetonatioN FocusMe. This is probably the lowest start in the playoffs for Gen.G, while for DFM, this is the first time they have ever managed to make it to the playoffs, and even if they crash out, it will be their best finish in VCT Pacific.
Opening Matches and Predictions
The VCT Pacific 2025 Stage 2 Playoffs kick off on Wednesday, August 13 with two exciting clashes that could set the tone for the entire bracket.
TALON vs Nongshim RedForce
[10 am CET | 1 am PT | 5 pm KST]
TALON enter the playoffs as a team that always seems to be improving, yet never quite breaking their glass ceiling. The Thai squad has not placed higher than fourth in any official event, and their performances in Kickoff and Stage 1 suggest they may be stuck in a competitive rut.
They added Anupong "thyy" Preamsak and Taned "Killua" Teerasawad in Stage 1 to refresh the roster, but early synergy issues may have been a factor in their inconsistency. Even so, this team has shown flashes of brilliance. Papaphat "Primmie" Sriprapha has been a steady hand throughout the group stage, with killua and thyy both delivering clutch moments under pressure. If TALON’s individuals find their stride at the same time, they could take down Nongshim RedForce without much trouble.
On the other side, Nongshim RedForce have quickly become one of the season’s biggest turnaround stories. In their debut year in VCT Pacific, they transformed from a 7th–8th place Stage 1 finish into a genuine playoff contender. The arrival of former DRX and Titan Esports Club veteran Goo "Rb" Sang-Min taking on the IGL role, and coach Sungmin from T1 Academy has sparked new life in the squad.
The standout performer has been Lee "Dambi" Hyuk-kyu, who earned 2 MVP awards in their 3 group-stage wins, including an incredible 1.39 rating in a 2-0 victory over Gen.G in the final week. With safety from relegation secured, NS now have their sights firmly set on reaching Champions, a goal that could inspire creative and fearless play.
The last meeting between these two was back in Stage 1, with both fielding different lineups. Given their current trajectories, NS look sharper and more cohesive.
Prediction: Nongshim RedForce 2-1 TALON
Rex Regum Qeon vs T1
[1 pm CET | 4 am PT | 8 pm KST]
Defending Pacific champions RRQ enter playoffs with quiet confidence. They mirrored their Stage 1 group stage record at 3-2, before going on to win the entire tournament earlier in the year. Keeping their roster unchanged signals belief in their existing formula, even if their international results have yet to match their regional dominance.
The duo of Cahya "Monyet" Nugraha and Maxim "Jemkin" Batorov has powered them through the group stage, with Monyet especially thriving on Neon and Omen, taking home two MVP honors. If the rest of the squad can rise to their level, RRQ have the ingredients for another deep playoff run.
Facing them is T1, a squad with a very different profile. While they still lack a Pacific title, they are former VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025 champions - proof that they can deliver when it counts. However, their Stage 2 form has been inconsistent, and all three of their group-stage wins came against weaker teams.
However, bright spots do exist. Ham "iZu" Woo-joo’s impact on the duelist role has been a major boost, earning him 2 MVP nods. Alongside him, Kim "Meteor" Tae-O has delivered in clutch situations, and even rookie Kang "DH" Dong-ho has managed to impress despite the pressure. The real question is whether T1 can fire on all cylinders against a top-tier opponent like RRQ.
Both squads have the talent to win, but we’re backing T1 to edge this battle if their stars shine on the day.
Prediction: T1 2-1 Rex Regum Qeon
With regional pride, Champions qualification, and outright survival at stake, fans can anticipate top-tier tactical battles, hype moments, and storylines that will shape VALORANT discourse for months to come. Only the best will survive, and only the strongest will carry Pacific’s banner to Champions in Paris.
