When was Warzone 2.0 released?

Warzone 2.0 has consistently maintained its reputation as one of the most revered and acclaimed Battle Royale games since its debut, introducing a multitude of features and improvements that have built upon the success of its predecessor. The initial version of Warzone had garnered widespread acclaim for delivering a smooth first-person Battle Royale experience, being among the first of its kind.

Developed as part of a collaboration between Infinity Ward and Raven Software, Warzone 2.0 was released on November 16, 2022 at 10AM PST for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was initially released as part of 2022's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and will be subsequently connected to 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III; however, Warzone 2.0 is free-to-play (link other piece) and does not require purchase of either of the Modern Warfare titles. 

What did the release of Warzone 2.0 feature?

For Call of Duty to warrant the release of an entirely new Battle Royale game, they had to justify it with significant improvements and additions to its already refined predecessor. Despite it being such a huge ask, they managed to pull it through with interesting new and continuing narratives as well as new guns, maps, a dedicated DMZ mode, alongside new third-person playlists, changes to the gulag, new AI combatants, and more. 

Ever since Warzone 2.0’s release in November 2022, developers have constantly worked to improve the game and introduce new modes including the return of Resurgence game mode, allowing players to rejoin the battle after being eliminated, provided at least one member of their squad remains alive. Plunder also returned, where teams must search for Cash scattered across the map to amass $2 million. However, the most notable addition to Warzone 2.0 was the introduction of a Ranked competitive mode in Warzone, developed in collaboration with Treyarch and adhering to the official Call of Duty League ruleset.
