Team Vitality eliminate EXCEL, FUT Esports sweep Team Falcons - VRL Finals Day 3
The third day of the tournament started with Group A’s elimination match. EXCEL’s map pick of the series was Haven. Team Vitality managed to defuse the bomb in the pistol round and started the game with a 3-round winning streak. However, EXCEL’s attacks got stronger as the rounds passed. The Northern Europe: Polaris champions had the upper hand at the end of the first half, 7-5. Gilad "ALIVE" Hakim had a great Jett performance in the first half. He had great stats but stepped up by grabbing 18 kills with 3 first bloods. He also held a 1.97 rating and his performance was the biggest aspect behind EXCEL’s first-half lead. On Vitality’s side, Joona "H1BER" Parviainen held a 1.51 rating with Raze in his hands, grabbing 14 kills in total. Team Vitality’s second-half performance was far better compared to their defense in the first half. The VRL - France: Revolution - Stage 2 - Main Event winners showed their dominance, especially in the middle stages of the game, and won the first map after 23 rounds, 13-10. Despite his poor defense in the first half, Santeri "BONECOLD" Sassi had a massive effect on the attacking side with a 1.21 rating. Nathan "nataNk" Bocqueho had the best rating at the end of the competition for Team Vitality with a solid 1.21.
The second map of the first series was Ascent, Team Vitality’s pick. The French champions lost the pistol round but immediately bounced back. Until the 7th round, the competition was very close but after that point, Vitality did not lose a single round, closing out the half with 8 rounds against 4. natanK once again led his team but this time with KAY/O in his hands. The French player grabbed 14 kills with a 2.33 K/D and a 1.63 rating to his name. Muhammad "Moe" Hariff was the best performing player on defense for the side of EXCEL with a 1.06 rating and 11 kills. However, he also died 11 times and lost 4 first blood duels, only winning 1. EXCEL had similar performance compared to Vitality on the attacking side and they also grabbed 8 rounds and forced overtime. This was their last chance to keep their hopes alive in the VRL Finals. However, Team Vitality ended their dreams pretty early, winning the first two overtime maps to sweep their opponents. natanK finished the game with 24 kills and 16 deaths. ALIVE’s 25-kill Chamber was not enough, even though he also grabbed 7 first bloods and won 88% of the first blood duels.
After a disappointing loss yesterday, Team Falcons picked Ascent against FUT Esports to make a good start to the series. After losing the first two rounds, FUT Esports dominated the half by winning every round until the end of it. The Turkish team had great defense and did not let their opponents win any round. Doğukan "qRaxs" Balaban led the squad with an impressive performance on Fade, grabbing 13 kills and holding a 1.78 rating. Konuralp "qw1" Şahin’s Jett performance was also very important for them as 6 of his 9 kills were first bloods in the first half. He did not lose a single first-blood duel. Team Falcons won the pistol round once again and reduced the gap but FUT Esports’ gun duels were on another level. They won the game after winning 3 rounds in the second half, 13-4. FUT did not lose a single gun round but they also did not win a single pistol round. qw1, qRaxs, and Furkan "MrFaliN" Yegen all reached 16 kills at the end of the competition and led their team on the battlefield.
FUT’s map pick of the day was Bind. Team Falcons started the game with another pistol round win and they also won the second round. The MENA champions had better gun duels in the second map and the competition was head-to-head in the first half. FUT Esports sat behind the wheel but Abed "SpY" Doughan stopped their streak with an ace in the last round of the half. The Lebanese player was the hero for his team as he grabbed 19 kills only in the first half and held a 2.23 rating, on top of the monstrous 430 ACS. Thanks to qRaxs’ incredible defense, FUT won their first pistol round of the series. The domination continued throughout the second half as the Turkish side closed out the series after winning their map pick, Bind, with a score of 13-6.
EXCEL and Team Falcons have been eliminated from the tournament. The competition will continue tomorrow with the decider match of Group A and the third match of Group B. More information is on the events page.
