VCT 2023 - Americas League is truly a gift that keeps on giving as the concluding day of Week 2 produced yet another entertaining matchup between NA’s renowned 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses, both searching for their first win of the tournament. However, in the end it was 100 Thieves that prevailed. THESPIKE.GG was granted an opportunity to chat with Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk and Matthew "Cryocells" Panganiban, breaking down their thoughts on the game, coming in off of a loss, individual performances, and more.

Asuna and Cryo express thoughts on win

THESPIKE.GG: Congratulations on the win. What were the emotions running like immediately after the result became apparent?

Asuna: Happy, I guess. I want to say that it was a must-win team coming off the loss last week but it was just the second match, so that wasn’t the case as much. We got the win, so we are happy with that.

Cryo: Glad that we got the win today. We didn’t want to continue having a losing record so having a win helps.

THESPIKE.GG: You guys were coming off of a loss against Sentinels just last week. How was the team’s morale going into this matchup?

Asuna: It was pretty high. It was not like we got blown out last week, we had a very close fight and we lost. So, we knew we had to win today.

Cryo: We definitely came out with more confidence than we did against Sentinels and everyone just was ready to do better and win.

THESPIKE.GG: The second map for this matchup was Icebox, which as you might be aware is leaving the map pool soon? What do you make of 100 Thieves’ performance on that map in today’s matchup?

Asuna: Bang farmed them, and I planted the bomb. There’s not much to it than that.

Cryo: I think they were running the standard LOUD comp that everyone copies and I think that it did not work out well for them.

THESPIKE.GG: Do you have any thoughts on it leaving the map pool?

Asuna: Not really. I mean it’s going to be back soon, maybe not in the near future but it will be back eventually.

Cryo: We don’t really care to be honest. We play decent on Icebox but with Bind coming back we are kind of excited since I know the last 100 Thieves (old roster) was very good with it. So that will be interesting.

THESPIKE.GG: If you were to rate your individual performance on a scale of 1-10, what would you give it and why? Especially after a slump last week

Cryo: I can’t really put a number to if I am being honest. But as I mentioned earlier, we definitely came out with more confidence this time around. My role in the team is to hit shots, and it seemed like I was more in my game today.

THESPIKE.GG: If I am correct, this was one of your first times trying out Gekko on the stage. What was the experience like and did it seem impactful?

Asuna: It was good. Gekko was definitely impactful I would say. I enjoyed playing on it.

THESPIKE.GG: What makes Gekko a better pick over Kay/O?

Asuna: With Gekko, you can pick up the orb, clear out and then be the bomb planter for your team.

THESPIKE.GG: Do you think Gekko has a place in the meta, especially on Haven? Why or why not?

Asuna: I think every Agent has a role in the meta if you are able to support and build around it, except maybe Reyna but that too can kind of work. So it really depends what you are playing it with and how.

THESPIKE.GG: If you have been following the Americas scene, what team are you looking forward to facing the most?

Asuna: I don’t really care, I will be there for all the matches and playing all of them so for me it doesn’t matter.

Cryo: Maybe Leviatan, I saw that they had a very good showing last week.
