Roster swap prior to Red Bull Home Ground New York

Prior to Red Bull Home Ground New York, G2 Esports revealed that the team would be moving longtime member Jonah "JonahP" Pulice to their inactive lineup. In his place, the three-time VCT Americas champions added in sixth man Andrej "babybay" Francisty to their active lineup at Red Bull Home Ground New York. The team’s journey through the tournament had a rocky start as G2 dropped their first best-of-one series to VCT Pacific team ZETA DIVISION.

As a result, the team was immediately placed in the lower bracket of the tournament, but were able to mount a remarkable lower bracket run. They began this run by taking down Cloud9 in a close 13-11 victory before continuing that momentum against Sentinels with a 13-8 win.

The team closed out their day of best-of-one’s by taking down VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions runners-up of Fnatic to qualify for day three of the tournament. The team’s lower bracket magic continued as they got their revenge against ZETA Division in the lower bracket final with dominant showings on Sunset and Split to qualify for the Grand Final against NRG Esports on the final day of the tournament.

Map one saw G2 take NRG's pick of Corrode in what turned out to be the closest map of the Grand Finals. While NRG were able to grab 10 rounds to their name, it wasn’t enough to stop strong G2's Initiator Trent "trent" Cairns from dominating the first map. From that point, G2 were untouchable on Split and Pearl as they didn’t drop a single pistol round, leading to their victory at Red Bull Home Ground New York.

What this win means for G2 Esports

This marks G2 Esports’ first non-VCT Americas trophy as they end their 2025 season on a high note.

The 2025 season was one that saw G2 Esports dominate domestically but struggle to find international success. The VCT Americas top dog stood just one round from winning VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025 before falling to T1. Then, at VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025, the team ultimately finished in fourth place. Finally, their VCT 2025 season came to an end with a 7th-8th finish at VALORANT Champions Paris 2025.

G2’s victory at Red Bull Home Ground New York signifies an important victory for this team’s first tournament as a group of five. Now, the team will have an opportunity to practice throughout the rest of the VALORANT offseason heading into the VCT 2026 season.

After winning Red Bull Home Ground New York, G2 Esports will head into the coming year hungry to come away with their first VCT international trophy.
