Gen.G DaNa at GCC 2026: “I want people to remember us as a team that can go toe-to-toe with other regions”
The start of the VALORANT Game Changers 2026 - Championship has once again been turbulent for the Pacific region. After a hard-fought series against KRÜ Blaze, Gen.G GC struggled to find their footing and were sent to the Lower Bracket early in the competition.
In an exclusive interview with THESPIKE, Jo "DaNa" Se-won discussed her struggles during the series, the process of rebuilding confidence, and what it feels like to return to the Lower Bracket after a year.
Discomfort on Stage
Although she didn't consider it an excuse for the team's overall performance, DaNa explained how discomfort on stage affected her individual performance during the match.
During the tech check, I couldn't find a comfortable playing position. The chair and desk heights weren't right for me. I tried adjusting them, but nothing worked, and I couldn't fully focus on the game because I had other things to worry about. That was one of the reasons I didn't perform as well as I should have.
According to DaNa, communication was one of the team's biggest issues throughout the series, with several moments lacking coordination. Improving this aspect will be crucial if Gen.G hopes to make a deep Lower Bracket run, especially given the pressure of an elimination bracket where every match could be their last.
Our communication wasn't working well during the match, which also contributed to the loss. I think I need to go back to the hotel, address the issues I had with my posture and the discomfort I felt on stage, and then I should be able to return to my usual form.
Rebuilding confidence to challenge other regions
At just 17 years old, DaNa is one of the youngest players in the tournament, but she doesn't believe her age puts her at a disadvantage. Confident in her potential to compete at the highest level, she acknowledged that she hasn't been in her best form over the past few weeks. Regaining her confidence and returning to her usual level of play are now among her main priorities.
I believe I have a high ceiling as a Duelist, but I'm also aware that I haven't been performing well lately. My form hasn't been great lately, so I'm trying to focus on improving and getting back to the level I know I can play at.
When it comes to competing against other regions, DaNa acknowledges that Pacific teams still have a long way to go, particularly in terms of practice environments and access to opportunities that can help them develop and compete at the highest level.
I believe teams in the Americas have a much better practice environment, which is a big advantage, as many Pacific teams lack the infrastructure and facilities to train at the same level. To reach that level, Pacific teams need to put in more effort and have access to more opportunities.
Gen.G's next challenge will be against a familiar opponent, FENNEL Female, in a do-or-die Lower Bracket matchup. However, the Korean Duelist has bigger ambitions for the tournament, hoping to make a deeper run, leave her mark on the international stage, and showcase what makes Gen.G stand out from the rest of the region.
I'm not nervous anymore. I've grown to understand what I need to focus on and how to enjoy the game. I think Gen.G stands out in the Pacific because of our aim prowess, which sets us apart from other teams in the region. I want people to see us as more than just the number one team in the Pacific. I want Gen.G to be known as a team that can go toe-to-toe with other regions and as the only Korean team capable of doing so.
DaNa made her debut in 2024, but it was in 2025 that she joined Ninetails, the Korean project that made history in the region and earned a spot on the international stage.
Now, in her second international appearance, the young Korean player hopes to make her mark on the scene. She later joined Gen.G, marking the organization's return to the Game Changers scene after a three-year absence.
VALORANT Game Changers Championship 2026
With this loss, Gen.G drops to the Lower Bracket, where every match from now on could be their last at the VALORANT Game Changers Championship 2026 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The tournament runs from October 22 to November 1. The winner will take home $180,000 in prize money.
