How balance has helped FURIA duelist alym compete at his best
Both FURIA and KRÜ Esports entered week three of VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Americas Stage 1 undefeated at 2-0. However, only one of these two teams would be able to lock in their spot in the VCT Americas Stage One 2026 playoffs. For FURIA, it was an usual feeling for the team, who got used to winning in the VCT Americas League.
As Torogul "alym" Baidyldaev walked into the VCT Americas media room, he could not help but remember all the key details from their series against KRÜ. This was the usual process for improvement that has helped the young duelist achieve so much in a short amount of time.
An analyst by nature, a lot of alym’s interests were always centered around being able to solve problems.
“I think that’s how I’ve been my whole life, and my friends know I’m very competitive,” alym said. “I don’t care about winning, but I just like being good at things, and whenever I’m bad at something, I will try my best to come back to it and be better next time.”
He remembered playing a language game with friends before noticing how English, his second language, affected his ability to do well in the game. He took a few moments to look back and connect the dots before improving his English by studying a dictionary.
This level of dedication to improvement has followed him into his work ethic at the University of Texas in Austin and into his pro VALORANT career. Since leveling up to Tier-1 VALORANT, alym is already a domestic champion after the team won VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Americas Kickoff. In Stage 1, the team has already usurped World Champions NRG to set themselves up for playoffs.
These major wins are why alym is able to isolate each tough moment for what it is: just a regular season loss. While FURIA are no longer undefeated in VCT Americas Stage 1 2026, alym still remains confident in the team’s ability to bounce back.
Prior to the start of the VCT 2026 season, FURIA were seen as a team that would struggle to compete alongside some of the top teams in the VCT Americas League. Now, they stand as one of the top teams in the region for their consistency.
One of the biggest things that has helped this team push through a lot of roadblocks they encounter stems from the team’s natural chemistry with one another. A big part of how they maintain this level of chemistry comes from maintaining some separation between playing VALORANT and being human.
“We actually don’t really play any games outside of VALORANT together,” alym said. “If we’re hanging out, we’ll just go on a walk or eat together. We don’t really sit on our PCs and play other stuff because we would rather hang out without our monitors.”
While he still believes a professional player needs to commit a serious amount of time towards the game, there is merit to leaving space to detach and reflect, according to alym.
Defying expectations in 2026
Part of what has made FURIA a special team, according to alym, is the team’s ability to separate itself from the game. For a brief moment, he removed himself from alym, the professional VALORANT player, and became Toro, the human. He spoke in excitement about one place called Rustic Food and how they try their best to go there every week to just talk about life and experience “peace”.
“There’s this one dude named Hector working there, and he just has the coolest vibe of all time,” alym said. “It’s just a kitchen, and he’s just cooking stuff up and it’s just the best place in the world.”
Part of what makes this a special process for alym and the rest of FURIA stems from the human aspect of being there. Whether it was enjoying the company of his teammates or the overall ambiance, these moments help alym find peace during chaotic and busy moments.
“It’s very humane and peaceful, it’s nice,” alym said. “It’s just a good vibe.”
FURIA’s most recent series against KRÜ Esports was anything but perfect, according to alym. He found himself struggling to create any pressure against their rivals on Lotus in what felt like playing against “near perfection” to hiim. Yet, despite the tougher series, he remembered that at the end of the day, it’s just “one regular season game”. That one series does not detract from all of the impressive accomplishments the FURIA squad has already in such a short amount of time together.
The next steps come from taking a step back to process what he can improve on, and then going back into the server to chip away at his weaknesses.
It will be interesting to see if FURIA will be able to bounce back from their series against KRÜ Esports as they move forward into their remaining matches against Sentinels and 100 Thieves. For now, they will use their time away from the stage to set themselves up for playoffs qualification.
