Now a free agent, artzin initially renewed with MIBR by 'mistake'

Arthur "artzin" Araujo announced this Thursday, October 9, that he is no longer part of MIBR and is now a free agent, as THESPIKE previously reported. It seems things could have turned out differently, however.

According to a report by THESPIKE Brazil, the player accidentally signed a contract extension with MIBR last year when the organization initially told him it was a document related to the VCT OFF Season - Spotlight Series Americas 2024; a situation that would go on to cause internal turmoil.

MIBR send the wrong document by 'mistake'

Between late November and early December 2024, MIBR were eager to get artzin to renew his contract—which would run until the end of the 2025 season—but the organization had not yet presented an offer and there was no apparent progress in the negotiations.

That's when MIBR sent the player a document and explained that it was related to the Spotlight tournament, an OFF//SEASON event that brought together VCT and Game Changers players together at the end of last year (2024). In truth, though, the document turned out to be a contract extension which would renew his deal with the team until the end of the 2026 season, with the same salary as his current contract, which ends at the conclusion of this season.

The player signed the papers at the time, only to realize a few minutes later that it wasn’t actually a Spotlight document. Artzin then demanded an emergency meeting with MIBR to make it clear that he would not accept that extension, as well as to express his dissatisfaction with the organization’s “mistake”. In spite of everything that had happened, artzin was still open to discussing an extension with the team.

Even though this "secret extension" was not validated in the end, it still had a negative effect in the relationship between the player and the organization. With artzin's contract never being extended in the end, the player has now become a free agent during this transfer window and can be signed “for free” by any organization starting from the next VALORANT competitive season.

Though MIBR is expected to be going through a bit of a rebuild with the suspected departures of Gabriel "cortezia" Cortez and Eduardo "xenom" Soeiro, artzin is the first player from MIBR’s roster to publicly speak about his future by announcing free agency. It’ll now be interesting to see whether the same ends up happening Erick "aspas" Santos and Danny "fRoD" Montaner, both of whom also have contracts running until the end of this season and are allowed to hear offers from other teams.
