With a considerably dominant start from DRX VS to start the tournament against both NORTHEPTION and FunPlus Phoenix, the anticipation for this matchup had increased several folds. Leviatán Esports, however, was focused on making their debut on the international stage as remarkable as possible. Ascent was the first to host both teams, a unexpected outcome for Leviatan’s map pick considering their recent matchup history. Nonetheless as both teams left the gate, the difference in each team’s confidence became eminent and one round after another fell to the Brazilian team enabling a lethal 11-1 end to the first half.

DRX was in the least optimal situation they could’ve hoped for, but their ability to thrive under pressure briefly reinstated their hopes for a comeback as their Defensive strategies displayed signs of fruition with four consecutive rounds to start second half. But Leviatan could not let the Korean giants continue building momentum and finally ended their run to close out the first map 13-6. Both teams then moved to Breee where DRX was more than eager to seek vengeance for a sub-par performance earlier and they demonstrated their intent to do so from the get-go by embarking on a six-round streak. Leviatan knew better than to let themselves be vulnerable as they barely managed to sneak four rounds past the aggressive DRX Offense.

But when sides changed, their Offense failed to capitalize and DRX’s defense was able to withstand Leviatan for the most part allowing only a single point before they closed out the map tying up the series. Finally, Haven was chosen as the decider and despite getting off to a poor start, DRX was able to turn the tables around and establish a fascinating 9-3 lead allowing them enough leeway for the second half, which became crucial as Leviatan Esports unleashed an unseen form on Offense resulting in an 12-11 score by round 23. One more and they could’ve forced Overtime, but Yu "BuZz" Byung-chul came in clutch to emerge victorious and proceed further in the Upper Brackets.

OpTic Gaming had started VCT 2022 - Stage 1 - Masters Reykjavík from the Group Stages and did so this time as well in the same fashion to qualify for the Upper Bracket Round 1 matchup against their NA counterparts, XSET. Just when the similarities couldn’t increase, XSET encountered the same narrative the previous #1 NA seed as they lost their first matchup of an international tournament as well.

XSET invited OpTic to initiate proceedings on Haven but before they could absorb the opportunity to play in a Masters event, OpTic did not hesitate in obliterating XSET’s defense from the inaugural round of the matchup, which elevated their lead to 10-2. Although overcoming an eight point deficit against the infamous Green Wall was almost an impossible task, XSET briefly retaliated with five rounds to end the half before OpTic closed out the map and took the early advantage.

Bind started with almost a similar timeline except that XSET was able to put up rounds earlier on the map exuding better chances of a potential comeback. Unfortunately, their attempts never saw output as Optic once again ended the first half on a high note with an 8-4 lead, and to make matters worse only allowed two additional rounds in the second half before confirming their spot in the Upper Bracket Semi Finals.
