In the most anticipated match of the VCT yet, Tyson "TenZ" Ngo’s debut with Sentinels, they managed to overcome the challenges of bringing in a new player to take the win over Luminosity Gaming. TenZ had a fantastic match for not having played professionally in months, with a particularly astonishing scoreline on the final map, Icebox. Sentinels will advance to play the winner of the upcoming Immortals vs 100 Thieves match on Sunday.

Ascent, Luminosity’s pick, was the first map, and immediately we saw Sentinels swap their composition around to accommodate their new player. TenZ took the Jett, while Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan swapped to Sova. Right out of the gate the teams began trading rounds, with Luminosity making a successful site hit one round and Sentinels a good defense the next. Eventually, Sentinels would start to pull ahead, their great defensive setups being aided by good fragging plays. Also notably, they didn’t look at all uncomfortable with TenZ’s addition and their compositional changes. The half ended 8-4.

Luminosity began well, taking 3 of the first four rounds (though TenZ picked up a 4k), but Sentinels weren’t going to let go of things that easy. It’s remarkable how much they looked like old Sentinels with one of NA’s most famously aggressive and solo-play oriented duelists on the team. They were calm, collected, and didn’t turn back, shutting LG down wherever they went. The map ended 13-8.

Due to unfortunate technical issues, there was a long delay in between maps, and the first four rounds of Split were missed. Interestingly, Kaleb "moose" Jayne was on Raze for Luminosity this map. Sentinels dominated most of the half, with TenZ having some big individual moments while they smartly played the map, though LG managed to pull a little bit back towards the end.

Moving to their defensive side, Sentinels were a little shakier, as Luminosity pulled off some explosive site hits that caught them off guard. This continued as the round went on, with Luminosity pulling Sentinels apart with smart and calculated plays. However, two straight flawless rounds for Sentinels made things tight again.

It was the small things for LG that paid off, as they pulled up to 12 rounds. But Sentinels weren’t about to let that go, and took it to overtime. Once there, though, Luminosity kept their momentum up, cleanly picking off players. They won both rounds, and sent us to map 3.

Icebox was a map with history between the two, as the first map that got the original LG upset against Sentinels rolling during the NSG Winter Championship. TenZ went with Reyna for the map, while ShahZaM stayed on Jett and Hunter "SicK" Mims took up the Sova. On LG’s side, it was business as usual, with Alex "aproto" Protopapas on Raze and Diondre "YaBoiDre" Bond on Omen. Sentinels were the ones to start out big, trading rounds early on before opening up a sizable lead. Luminosity struggled to find anything besides a few scrappy rounds, and the half ended 9-3.

The second half began and immediately TenZ was all over the place.

After taking the follow-up, it was ShahZaM’s turn to go crazy by clutching out a postplant at the very last second. With their backs against the wall, Luminosity took a few rounds, but it wasn’t enough. One round was all Sentinels needed, and eventually, they found it. TenZ dropped 2.04 Rating, 427 ACS, and a 1.8 KD on the map, leading the way for Sentinels’ victory in his debut match.
