SRG's meL steps back from competing to focus on mental health

Melanie "meL" Capone of Shopify Rebellion Gold has announced on X that she is taking a break from competitive play for the remainder of 2026. The player has been struggling mentally but is planning to make a comeback in 2027.

Working on her mental health

In her post on X, meL explains that she has, for a long time, struggled with her mental health dating back to the summer of 2025. She was recently diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and her condition has been declining rapidly.

“I believe the best course of action is for me to step away from competing in order to give myself the best chance to repair my mental health. This would also give my team the ability to play with someone who can commit to giving 100%, which I cannot do in this state.”

She continues, saying that she will still be a part of the VALORANT community by co-streaming, attending live events, appearing on the VCT desk, and taking on opportunities she didn’t have time for previously.

Dominating in North America

meL has been competing in VALORANT since the beginning, starting out on Cloud9 White. After making her first Game Changers Championship appearance in 2022, she was picked up by Version1, which later became Shopify Rebellion Gold. Since then, SRG has dominated both regionally and globally, taking home two GC titles.

The team is currently playing in VALORANT Game Changers 2026 - Game Changers North America Stage 1 and has not announced who will be filling meL’s spot. She ends her announcement with a message to the team:

“If we don't team up again in the future, I want everyone to know competing with you all has been some of the best times of my life, and I'm grateful to have been among such great company. I hope I have left as positive an impact on your lives as you all have on mine. I also want to thank everyone at Shopify Rebellion for being incredibly supportive throughout this process and having my back the whole way.”
