VALORANT introduces a complete rework for Harbor
Riot Games has just unveiled a major overhaul for Harbor, the Indian controller who commands the power of water. Despite his visually stunning abilities and unique design, Harbor had struggled to find footing in both professional and ranked play. Competing against more versatile controllers like Omen and Astra, he often became a niche pick. But with an extensive rework set to arrive in Patch 11.10, Riot aims to give Harbor the push he has long needed to become relevant in the meta once again.
A Fresh Kit for the Controller
Harbor’s abilities have been almost completely redesigned, staying true to his water theme but with a sharper focus on area control and team aggression.
High Tide (Q)
High Tide has now been changed to a non-signature ability, but it still remains familiar. Equipping High Tide allows him to send a vision-blocking wall forward along the ground, which can be guided or stopped early. Anyone crossing through this water barrier will also be slowed, giving players a layer of crowd control that amplifies site denial. High Tide will now cost 300 credits to buy.
Storm Surge (C)
Replacing the old Cascade, Storm Surge turns Harbor into an initiator-style controller. When thrown, it creates a whirlpool that nearsights and slows enemies within a short duration. The mechanic is, for all intents and purposes, a hybrid between a flash and a slow orb. But it also allows Harbor to disrupt and isolate fights more effectively.
Cove (E)
Cove has replaced Harbor's new signature ability, and has been upgraded for flexibility. It can still be deployed as a smoke, but players can now adjust its placement with more precision using alternate targeting modes, similar to Omen. Press RELOAD to change targeting view, with left and right mouse click to move it further or closer, respectively.
In addition, Harbor can reactivate the smoke to shield it from bullets, though, like before, this protection can be destroyed. But this change gives the player more freedom on how and where they want to deploy.
Reckoning (X)
Harbor’s ultimate, Reckoning, has been completely reworked. Instead of revealing and stunning enemies like before, it now sends a massive water surge forward, similar to the Cascade. The ultimate covers a large area and applies nearsight and slow effects to all enemies it touches. The ability feels visually impactful and aligns with Harbor’s redefined role as an aggressive site-opener.
A Shift Toward Aggression
This rework transforms Harbor from a passive controller into a dynamic space-maker. His new kit encourages coordinated pushes, enabling teams to break through defensive setups with a combination of slows, nearsights, and flexible smokes. Unlike his previous design, Harbor’s toolkit now rewards proactive play and decisive entry tactics.
Community feedback so far has been largely positive, with players expressing excitement about the bolder identity Riot has given the agent. Patch 11.10, expected to land in mid-November, could mark the start of a revival for Harbor in both casual and competitive play.
