Equinox Esports are a brand new esports organization, backed by some serious financial muscle and looking to use VALORANT as their way to get into the scene. Ahead of First Strike, the organization has announced the signing of long-standing North American side China Nguyen.

Equinox’s full new roster consists of Jose Carlo Muñoz "Dcop" Delsol, David "DXN" Nguyen, Jake "Paincakes" Hass, Danny "cutefatboy" Nguyen, and Kevin "mina" Nguyen. Dcop has been around many games: he originally played Overwatch, and was quite successful representing Evil Geniuses, before trying his luck at Battalion 1944. That didn’t quite work out, so he headed to another game, Apex Legends, where he played for Tempo Storm. With the slow demise of the Apex competitive scene, Dcop made one more switch to VALORANT. DXN, mina, and cutefatboy, like many VALORANT players, come from deep in the North American CS:GO scene: DXN and mina in the more traditional ESEA and MDL scene, cutefatboy at a collegiate level. Paincakes has no previous competitive experience.

In VALORANT, of course, all have found plenty of success. DXN and cutefatboy were part of the original China Nguyen roster that was built around Harrison "psalm" Chang, with whom they managed to pull off many upsets, such as victories over TSM and T1 Academy. After Psalm left, China Nguyen reformed for the FaZe Clan VALORANT Invitational, with Dcop, Paincakes, and Tyler "tyti" Alegre joining. One final roster change would happen as tyti was replaced with former HIA MONEY CREw member mina. With tyti, the team won the Nerd Street Gamers - Monthly August, and after his replacement, they won their group and finished 5th-6th at the PULSE Series. At the end of September, they won the Nerd Street Gamers - Monthly September, winning it for the second month in a row, and most recently took home the win at the 30Bomb: Invitational Series #2. As of September 18th, they sit at #9 in THESPIKE.GG’s North American Ranking.

After months of #signchinanguyen tweets, it’s finally happened. There’s few better options for Equinox to enter VALORANT with, and plenty of eyes will be on their performance at First Strike.
