The first lower bracket games are done with nothing but excitement and surprises. EDward Gaming have picked up an important win over LOUD to move on in the tournament. The Brazilian giants have bid farewell to VCT 2023 - Masters Tokyo. NRG picked up the second victory in today’s series and sent DRX home. Here is everything you need to know!

    EDward Gaming vs. LOUD

The Brazilian representatives picked Lotus to start things off in the first lower bracket game and keep their hopes alive. EDG made a fast start on the attacking side and kept their lead until the end of the first half. EDward Gaming grabbed eight rounds in the first half, while LOUD had four. Wang "nobody" Senxu and Zheng "ZmjjKK" Yongkang led their team with 13 and 14 kills respectively. EDG won all the first half rounds by eliminating all of the opposing players. It was now time for Erick "aspas" Santos to carry his team to glory; however, EDG were the superior side again. LOUD won the first half, but they couldn’t keep it up. EDward Gaming looked pretty good on the defensive end, with nobody stepping up once again with a 1.89 rating. At the end of the first map, EDG grabbed the win with a score of 13-6 and made an impressive start to the series that surprised most fans.

EDG had a huge advantage after winning the first map of the series. The Chinese representatives picked Fracture, and the competition started with EDG’s great effort on defense. With aspas taking more responsibility for his team, LOUD had the upper hand after the first half, 7-5. The Brazilian Neon grabbed 15 kills and held a 1.68 rating. LOUD won the first two halves of the second half, but after the first gun round, EDG sat behind the wheel. The Chinese team dominated the second map and won eight rounds while losing only one, and concluded the series with a 13-10 win. After the last round, EDG surprised everyone and swept LOUD to continue their run in Tokyo.

    DRX VS vs. NRG Esports

The second match of the day started on DRX’s Pearl pick, and the South Korean team showed why they chose the map with a strong defensive performance. DRX VS won eight rounds in the first half and denied most of their opponent’s attacks. DRX especially dominated the last rounds of the first half and successfully defended the bomb sites. Goo "Rb" Sang-Min played out of his mind on defense, holding a 2.07 rating with 18 kills on Killjoy. His performance decided the first half’s score. The second half was very close, as NRG had a similar defensive effort. At the end of the competition, NRG barely edged out the dub with a score of 13-11 and picked up an important win to start things off in the series.

NRG’s map pick was Haven, and after winning the first match, they had the upper hand in the best-of-three. The VCT 2023 Americas League team won eight rounds in the first half, and almost every player had stand-out performances. Victor "Victor" Wong and Austin "crashies" Roberts led the team with 1.71 and 1.70 ratings respectively. DRX failed to show their true nature on attack and the struggle continued in the second half. It was Ardis "ardiis" Svarenieks's time in the second half. The Latvian player proved his worth with an incredible performance, maintaining a 2.82 rating with 12 kills and only two deaths. ardiis dominated the game with Jett in his hands.
