Group of death? Esports World Cup shows stacked VALORANT competition
It’s only been a few days since the dramatic and emotional end to VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025, where Paper Rex finally secured their first-ever international VALORANT championship. But there’s no time to rest for the reigning champs—as they now shift their focus to the upcoming EWC VALORANT - Esports World Cup 2025, where even more chaos and competition await.
The Esports World Cup has officially revealed the groups for the event’s VALORANT competition, and they’re absolutely loaded. Several top contenders from the recent Masters tournament return to action, joined by big-name squads that narrowly missed out on a ticket to Toronto. With talent spread across all four groups, fans are in for another high-stakes spectacle.
Groups at a Glance
Here’s a look at how the groups are shaping up:
Groups of Death?
Group A is arguably the most dangerous group of the bunch, as it features the defending champions Paper Rex, Americas’ top finisher from Masters Toronto G2 Esports, and Bilibili Gaming, a team that had moments of brilliance in Toronto despite falling short of the podium. Rounding out the group is Karmine Corp, who will come in as underdogs but could shake things up with a strong showing.
Group D is sure to be one of the most watched in the tournament. It features Fnatic, the Toronto runner-ups who looked nearly unstoppable until the grand finals, and Gen.G, the pride of Korea and home to Pacific superstar Kim "t3xture" Na-ra. Add in Edward Gaming, still considered China's most popular team, and 100 Thieves, who’ll have a massive challenge ahead in their return to international play.
Something to prove
Over in Group B, Sentinels make their return to the spotlight after a decent showing in Toronto. The group also includes XLG Esports, who had flashes of greatness at Toronto, BBL Esports, and DRX—teams that are looking to make their mark on an international stage.
Group C brings plenty of intrigue as well. NRG Esports are back in action after missing Masters Toronto, though they’ll be fielding a new-look roster following the retirement of longtime in-game leader FNS. They’ll clash with Rex Regum Qeon, Titan Esports Club, and EMEA’s Team Heretics, who are hoping to rebound after a surprisingly early exit in Toronto.
With every group packed with either proven contenders or rising threats, the Esports World Cup promises to be another thrilling chapter in the 2025 VALORANT season. Whether you’re looking to follow your favorite team or watch the rise of a new giant, there will be no shortage of storylines on the road to the championship.
