Is VALORANT the new King of Twitch?
The new first-person shooter VALORANT, which is developed by Riot Games, brought in big numbers on Twitch, on April 3rd, 2020. As the embargo was dropped, many streamers took the time to broadcast their gameplay and explain their first impressions of the game. These influencers had a chance to test during a special bootcamp for streamers and influencers only.
On Twitch, VALORANT reached 1 million concurrent viewers that were watching streamers like Summit1G, TimTheTatman, Dr. Lupo, Aceu and more. The question is whether or not VALORANT will be able to hold that top spot in the coming months as we start to see the game through in-depth gameplay.
Riot has blown expectations out of the water as streamers and pro-players from other games have responded in an increasingly positive manner. Multiple players have said that this is one of the best playing games they have played in a long time. It brings echoes from the drop of Apex Legends, the major difference being that none of the streamers were paid to showcase the game as the reports say.
Twitch also held a Twitch Rivals "Showcase" tournament. The most interesting part about that stream was that it showcased what we are likely to see from real tournaments with the format and casting. Only time will tell if VALORANT has the ability to stay up at the top in viewership over the coming year. All we can confirm now is that the hype is indeed, real.
