Sentinels eliminate Shopify Rebellion; The Guard continue their run in Upper Brackets

Day 3 of VCT 2022 - North America Last Chance Qualifier came bearing difficult news for Shopify Rebellion as they became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament; therefore, will not be able to qualify for VCT 2022 - Champions Istanbul. Apart from that, Cloud9 has been relegated to the Lower Brackets by The Guard.

Proceedings for the matchup commenced on Fracture, which was chosen by Cloud9 as their map pick. However they weren’t the first ones to score a round to themselves as The Guard’s Offense got off to a strong offensive start taking five rounds to their name before Cloud9 retaliated with a better Defensive strategy to take six consecutive rounds.

Despite having a 7-5 lead by halftime, Cloud9 couldn’t capitalize on Offense as The Guard’s defense utilized the momentum from winning the pistol round to close out the map while surrendering only two rounds to Cloud9’s flawed Offense.

Both teams then transitioned to Ascent, where The Guard realized its advantage and tried to capitalize on it early on. Even though, Cloud9 took the first couple of rounds, they couldn’t maintain consistency allowing Jacob "valyn" Batio and Trent "trent" Cairns to trample them and take 7 rounds for the team by halftime.

A two-point deficit doesn’t usually provide substantial leeway, but The Guard managed to make it work. Cloud9 had a considerably better Offense and at round 22 were tied with their opponents at 11 rounds apiece. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep up and The Guard closed out the series sending Cloud9 to the Lower Brackets.

Being the first Lower Bracket matchup of the event added to the anticipation regarding which team would have to be eliminated. Sentinels had just brought on Michael "shroud" Grzesiek and it would’ve been upsetting to several fans to see him leave the event so soon especially after a relatively poor debut against The Guard.

Nonetheless, his experience with CS:GO finally came in play on Breeze where he finished with a 1.43 Rating, 284 ACS, and 177.3 ADR — impressive figures against one of NA’s best teams. The timeline on Breeze witnessed Sentinels leading 7-5 by halftime despite a rocky start, and then an almost flawless defensive half with two streaks of four rounds apiece.
