Can I play LOL without Vanguard?

You cannot play League of Legends without Vanguard. Riot Games made Vanguard a required part of the game in May 2024. If Vanguard is not active, the game will not launch. This rule also includes Teamfight Tactics. If you uninstall or disable Vanguard, you will not be able to access the client or start the game.

Vanguard runs in the background as soon as you turn on your computer. It checks for any cheat software and blocks it. Riot added this system to prevent cheating and ensure the game is fair for everyone. Some players have had problems with Vanguard, especially on older computers, because it works on a deep level inside your system.

To play League of Legends, you must first install Vanguard and then run it. Make sure your computer meets the system requirements so Vanguard works without issues. If something goes wrong, you can find help on the official Riot support website.

    How do I uninstall LOL?

To uninstall League of Legends from your PC:

    1. Open the Start Menu and go to Settings
    2. Click Apps
    3. Find League of Legends in the list
    4. Click it and choose Uninstall
    5. Follow the steps on your screen to remove it

After uninstalling, you can delete any leftover Riot Games folders from your hard drive. Make sure the game and Riot client are fully closed before you start.

Why does it say the Riot client is still running?

This message means that the Riot Client is still open in the background. It may not close fully when you exit the game. To fix it, open Task Manager, look for any Riot tasks, and click End Task. After that, you can reopen the client or uninstall the game without seeing that message again.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
