The list of new Legend of Zelda projects is clearer outside the next mainline game than inside it. Nintendo has not announced the next full Zelda game after Tears of the Kingdom, but the franchise still has confirmed projects, recent releases, and active support across Nintendo Switch 2 and film.

Right now, the biggest confirmed Zelda project is the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, which is planned for 2027. On the game side, fans have already seen Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, the ZELDA NOTES companion service, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. That gives the series a busy short-term future, even without a confirmed new mainline entry.

Will there be another Zelda game after Tears of the Kingdom?

There will almost certainly be another Zelda game after Tears of the Kingdom, but Nintendo has not announced it yet. The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s biggest series, so a new game feels like a matter of time. Still, players should not treat it as official until Nintendo reveals it.

Tears of the Kingdom also does not have planned DLC, which makes the current era feel more complete. Nintendo moved the focus toward Switch 2 support instead. Tears of the Kingdom received a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with better performance, sharper visuals, HDR support, and ZELDA NOTES compatibility.

That does not mean Nintendo has moved away from Zelda. It means the next mainline game remains under wraps. For now, the safe answer is simple: another Zelda game is expected, but the next mainline Zelda has no title, trailer, release window, or confirmed platform.

What is the next Legend of Zelda project?

The next major confirmed Legend of Zelda project is the live-action Zelda movie, as announced back in 2023. Nintendo is producing the film with Sony Pictures, and Wes Ball is directing it. Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are attached as producers.

The movie is planned for 2027, as announced in the financial results file from Nintendo, and it gives Zelda a much bigger role outside games. That matters because Nintendo now treats its major series as entertainment brands, not only game franchises. The success of Mario on the big screen showed how far Nintendo characters can travel when the company controls the tone and quality. GameSpot released some information and leaks about the game a couple of months ago.

The Zelda movie also gives fans something real to follow while they wait for the next mainline game. Casting, trailers, story details, and marketing will likely shape the next wave of Zelda news before Nintendo says anything about a new game.

What other games should we expect?

Players should expect more Zelda activity on Switch 2, but they should separate confirmed games from likely ideas. Nintendo has already used the new console to bring back recent Zelda titles with technical upgrades.

The current Zelda game picture includes:

  • Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
  • ZELDA NOTES for supported Switch 2 Zelda editions

A remake or remaster can still happen in the future. Nintendo has a long history with Zelda re-releases, and Switch 2 gives the company a strong reason to revisit older games. But no new remake has been announced yet, so readers should treat that as a possibility, not a confirmed plan.
