It’s easy to get distracted by the excitement surrounding LOCK//IN and dismiss the regional Challenger tournaments taking place simultaneously. While this occurrence is a testament to the growth of VALORANT esports, it has resulted in the spotlight on newer teams being dimmed down and the potential for exciting narratives to be overlooked. One such story is the rise of unsigned teams in the scene and Team BreakThru, now Moist Moguls, exemplified this narrative elegantly.

Free Agents unite

Team BreakThru was one of two free agent rosters available in the NA Challengers league making their way to VCT 2023 - Challengers League North America - Split 1 after a fascinating run through the Upper Bracket in the Open Qualifiers. At the time of signing, they had already competed twice in the Challengers League with a win in their opening matchup against Oxygen Esports followed by a loss against G2 Esports.

Their success as a roster can be attributed to the experience each member of the roster has in the scene. Starting off with brawk and aproto, who were a part of Ghost Gaming’s VCT 2022 roster and were consequently key factors in the roster’s qualification for Stage 2 Main Event. Both players have managed to maintain a plausible 1.12 rating with relatively similar ACS.

Flyuh had a more eventful 2022, atleast towards the end of the VCT season featuring not only a place in the Stage 2 Main Event, but a 3rd place earning them enough circuit points for the Last Chance Qualifier. Unfortunately, they couldn’t muster enough momentum to make it to the Grand Finals and settled with a 3rd place.

Considering that Luminosity Gaming were able make it to the Main Event during both Stages, thief also has a stacked resume and will be looking to utilize the experience for Moist. Despite not having played at a VCT event thus far, sym has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the team he played for, notably including TSM Academy.

With this announcement, the Moist Moguls roster is as follows:

  • United States Brock "brawk" Somerhalder
  • United States Alex "aproto" Protopapas
  • United States Xavier "flyuh" Carison
  • United States Brady "thief" Dever
  • United States Tyler "sym" Porter
  • United Kingdom Tanishq "Tanizhq" Sabharwal
