Ruby is one of the most important mid-game ores in The Forge. Players need it for quest progress, crafting value, and gold income. It is not an end-game resource, but it sits at a point where many players slow down if they do not understand where and how it drops. In this piece, you will learn where Ruby spawns, what you need to mine it, and how to improve your chances without wasting time!

What is Ruby and why does it matter in The Forge?

Ruby is an Epic-rarity ore in The Forge. It drops from a specific rock type and does not appear in early regions. This makes it a progression check for players who reach the Forgotten Kingdom.

Ruby has three main roles in the game:

    • It provides a 2.95x forge multiplier, which boosts crafted items
    • It sells for 44.25 Gold per ore, which is strong for mid-game economy
    • It is required for key quests, including late steps in major questlines

Ruby has no special traits on its own. Its value comes from rarity, multiplier strength, and quest use.

Where Ruby spawns and how to reach the area

Ruby only drops from Basalt Veins. These rocks appear in the Forgotten Kingdom, which is the second major region unlocked through portal progression.

To reach the Ruby farming area:

    1. Travel to the Forgotten Kingdom
    2. Enter the Ruined Cave
    3. Follow the cave paths toward the Volcanic Depths

Basalt Veins spawn near the Volcanic Depths entrance and inside nearby side caverns. One popular route includes a slightly hidden cave east of the main entrance. This area replaces elite enemies with Deathaxe Skeletons and offers frequent Basalt spawns.

Check out our map and location guide to understand the game map better.

If other players already break the rocks, you can still drop into the Volcanic Depths through the opened holes and continue deeper.

Pickaxe requirements and mining power explained

You cannot farm Ruby early because Basalt Veins require high mining damage. Your pickaxe must reach a minimum damage threshold, or the rock will not break.

    Key points to know:

    • You need at least 78 base pickaxe damage to mine Basalt Veins efficiently
    • Forgotten Kingdom pickaxes usually meet this requirement
    • Faster break speed means more attempts per hour

Mining power matters more than luck at the start. If your pickaxe is too weak, no luck bonus will help.

    Ruby drop rate

Ruby does not drop often. Each Basalt Vein has a 1 in 487 chance to drop Ruby.

    This means:

    • Long dry streaks are normal
    • You will mine a lot of Quartz instead
    • Luck boosts make a real difference over time

Ruby farming rewards consistency, not short sessions.

How to increase your drop chance

Luck affects how often rare ores appear. You should stack luck bonuses before long farming sessions.

The most effective ways to increase luck include:

    • Luck Potions, which offer a direct boost
    • Dedicated Player achievement bonus, which scales with playtime
    • Miner Shard runes with Luck traits on your pickaxe
    • Race bonuses, with Angel offering one of the best luck increases
    • Developer events, which sometimes raise global luck
    • Luck Totems, which give a temporary 25 percent boost

Using several of these together improves results without changing your route.

    Best Ruby farming strategy

A simple loop works best for most players.

    Follow this plan:

    1. Equip your highest damage pickaxe
    2. Apply all luck bonuses before starting
    3. Mine Basalt Veins near the Volcanic Depths entrance
    4. Move east to the hidden cavern if spawns are gone
    5. Rotate between spots while nodes respawn

Avoid standing still. Movement increases spawn coverage and reduces downtime.

What Ruby is used for in quests and crafting

Ruby plays a direct role in major questlines.

During the Goblin King questline, players must collect five Ruby ores and pay 25,000 Gold. Completing this quest rewards a key that unlocks the Goblin Cave.

Beyond quests, Ruby works best in two situations:

    • Forging weapons or armor for high multipliers
    • Selling raw ore for fast gold when upgrading gear

Many players struggle with Ruby because of avoidable errors.

    The most common issues include:

    • Mining the wrong rock type instead of Basalt Veins
    • Farming before reaching proper pickaxe damage
    • Ignoring luck bonuses during long sessions
    • Staying in crowded spots instead of rotating

Fixing these mistakes often matters more than grinding longer.

Focus on pickaxe power first, stack luck second, and then rotate your routes. With that approach, Ruby becomes a steady part of your progress instead of a roadblock.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
