Resources are the foundation of progression in Hytale. Every tool you craft, weapon you wield, structure you build, and potion you brew depends on how well you understand Hytale resources. This Hytale guide explains all major resource types, how to gather them efficiently, how to process them, and how to use them smartly.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, mastering Hytale resources will significantly improve your survival speed, crafting efficiency, and overall gameplay.

    What are Hytale resources?

In Hytale, resources are any materials collected from the world that can be used for crafting, building, farming, combat upgrades, or progression systems. Unlike simpler sandbox games, Hytale uses tiered resources, processing stations, and biome-based availability, meaning the way you gather and use resources changes as you progress.

Resources fall into five main categories:

    1. Natural materials
    2. Ores and minerals
    3. Mob and creature drops
    4. Farming and renewable resources
    5. Crafted and refined materials

Each category plays a specific role in early, mid, and late-game progression. Here is how.

    Natural Materials (Early-game essentials)

Natural materials are the first Hytale resources you will collect. They require little to no tools and are vital for early survival, such as:

    Resource

    How to get

    Primary uses

    Notes

    Wood

    Obtained by chopping trees

Tools, crafting stations, fuel, building blocks

Different tree types may yield unique visual blocks

    Sticks

Collected from bushes or crafted from wood

    Tools, weapons, torches, crafting stations

    Essential early-game crafting component

    Plant Fiber

    Gathered from plants and grass

    Early crafting recipes, cloth components

    Common starter material

    Rubble

Found on the ground or by breaking surface stones

    Early workstations, stone tools

    Important for early progression

    Tree Sap

These Hytale resources allow you to build your first Workbench, which unlocks most early crafting options.

Ores and minerals (Core progression resources)

Hytale ores are among the most important Hytale resources and are found underground in caves and rock layers. Mining requires pickaxes, with stronger tools needed for higher-tier ores. Right now, there are 8 ores in Hytale:

    Crude Pickaxe (starter pickaxe)

One of the easiest ores to find; used for early-game gear

    Iron Ore

    Zone 1

    Howling Sands (desert)

Inside caves; more common deeper in the desert

    Crude Pickaxe (Copper Pickaxe recommended)

    Iron Pickaxe or higher

Very rare; boss farming is an alternative source

    Adamantite Ore

    Zone 4

    Cinder Islands

Near lava pockets, underground and around lava

    Iron Pickaxe (higher tier recommended)

Identified by red fragments in blocks

How to use ores in Hytale

    1. Mine ore blocks
    2. Smelt them in a Furnace
    3. Convert into metal ingots
    4. Use ingots for tools, armor, and stations

Efficient mining is key to fast progression. Always explore caves thoroughly and mark ore locations.

    Mob and creature drops

Many essential Hytale resources are obtained by defeating animals and hostile creatures, such as:

    Resource

    Dropped By

    Types / Examples

    Primary uses

    Notes

    Hides

Animals such as boars, wolves, and bears

    Light, medium, heavy hides

    Processed into leather

Higher-tier animals drop stronger hide types

    Leather

    Crafted from hides

    Leather sheets

    Armor, backpacks, gear upgrades

    Requires a Tanning Rack

    Linen Scraps

    Humanoid or low-level mobs

    Cloth fragments

    Cloth armor, crafting components

    Common early-game mob drop

    Monster Parts

    Hostile creatures and bosses

    Bones, claws, fangs, magical components

    Alchemy, weapons, advanced crafting

    Stronger enemies drop rarer parts

    Farming and renewable resources

Farming is one of the most reliable ways to maintain long-term access to Hytale resources.

    Crops

    • Grown using seeds and tilled soil
    • Provide food and crafting ingredients
    • Some crops are used in potions and buffs

Here are some of the crops you should know:

    Animal farming

Hytale does not yet have a full taming or breeding system implemented in early access, but there are animals players can capture and keep in pens for farming purposes using available mechanics. Each farmed animal yields useful Hytale resources:

    • Chickens: Eggs, meat
    • Cows: Leather, beef
    • Pigs: Pork and meat drops
    • Sheep: Wool and meat
    • Rabbits: Meat and bones (or other small drops)

Use Feed Bags to attract animals then capture them with a Capture Crate — this is currently the most reliable way to make a farm setup even without a traditional taming or breeding system.

    Food resources

    • Raw meat, vegetables, and cooked meals
    • Higher-quality food provides buffs and regeneration

Farming reduces dependence on exploration and combat for survival resources.

    Processing stations and resource refinement

Raw Hytale resources are rarely useful on their own. Processing stations unlock their full value. Here are the key Hytale crafting stations you should know:

    Crafting station

    Primary function

    How to get / Craft

    Workbench

Basic crafting (starter gear, tools, blocks)

Craft from inventory “Pocket Crafting”: 3 Stones + 4 Tree Trunks. This unlocks other stations.

    Furnace

Smelts raw ores into metal ingots

Craft at Workbench: 6 Tree Trunks + 6 Stones.

    Tanning Rack

Turns animal hides into usable leather

Craft at Workbench: 6 Tree Trunks + 3 Stone + 3 Light Hide.

    Alchemist’s Bench

    Potions and magical item crafting

    Craft at Workbench: 5 Gold Ingots + 10 Bone Fragments + 10 Venom Sacs + 20 Stones.

    Arcanist’s Workbench

Advanced magic crafting (essence, teleportation, etc.)

Craft at Workbench: 10 Thorium Ingots + 30 Linen Scraps + 20 Essence of the Void.

    Salvager

    Breaks items into reusable materials

Craft at Workbench: 6 Iron Ingots + 5 Tree Trunks + 5 Stones.

Each Hytale station expands your crafting possibilities and allows you to convert basic resources into powerful gear.

    Resource management tips

    To use Hytale resources efficiently:

    • Prioritize inventory upgrades: Backpacks require leather and crafted materials. Upgrading early prevents wasted trips.
    • Balance mining and combat: Some progression paths require both ores and mob drops. Avoid focusing on only one.
    • Build near resource nodes: Set bases near forests, caves, and water to reduce travel time.
    • Use salvaging: Old or unused gear can be broken down to reclaim valuable materials.
