Everything You Need to Know About Warwick in League of Legends
Being one of the most detailed champions since his rework, Warwick is a great champion to pick up, so if that interests you, here is everything you need to know about Warwick in League of Legends.
Warwick is a Zaunite by nature, and designed as a Fighter and Bruiser, he excels at dueling, in fact he loves it. So if that is your kind of champion, you might want to pick up the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun.
We got a glimpse at Warwick at the end of the hit League of Legends TV show, Arcane Season 1, and combined with his release cinematic upon rework, we think he is just such a cool champion, and we know you will think the same after reading this article containing everything you need to know about Warwick!
Warwick’s abilities in League of Legends
Passive: Eternal Hunger

Warwick’s Passive is very simple, but it has two parts. The first is that he deals bonus magic damage with every auto attack he has. Yes, his auto attacks are on hit magic damage that scale with both AD and AP.
The second and cooler part of his passive is that when Warwick is below 50% of his maximum HP, he heals for 100% of the damage dealt by the on hit auto attacks, which goes up to 250% when he is below 25% HP.
This means the lower health he is, and the more he auto attacks, the more healing he will get!
Q: Jaws of the Beast

Warwick dives at the selected target, dealing magic damage and maximum HP damage with a large bite, which also heals him for up to 75% of the damage dealt at rank 5, which also applies on hit effects and lifesteal too.
Warwick players can hold down the Q button to channel the bite and charge through the enemy to end up behind them. Whilst he is using his Q, he follows wherever the target goes, so if they dash, he follows them!
W: Blood Hunt

The passive part of Blood Hunt is that Warwick gains bonus attack speed when he attacks enemies who are below 50% HP, but be careful not to attack anything else, as if he changes targets, the attack speed goes. This can scale up to 110% bonus attack speed at level 5 of this ability.
Warwick also can sense enemy champions who are below 50% of their maximum HP, as long as this was dealt by an ally, which then marks them with a Blood Hunt trail leading to from Warwick to them.
This remains until the regenerate to above 50% HP, but during the time that the Blood Hunt is active, Warwick gains bonus movement speed along these trails, ramping up over 3.5s, up to a maximum of 55% bonus movement speed.
Both of these bonuses, attack speed and movement speed are ramped up to 250% against enemy champions that are below 20% of their maximum HP.
The active of Warwick’s W is that he marks the nearest enemy champion with a Blood Hunt for 8 seconds, gaining both passives for the duration.
E: Primal Howl

With Primal Howl, Warwick can reduce the damage he takes for 2.5 seconds, which can be recast after 1 second, or automatically after the 2.5 seconds have run out.
With the recast, Warwick fears all nearby enemies for 1 second, and he also slows them by 90% for the duration.
If Warwick uses his ultimate ability before recasting Primal Howl, the recast will automatically happen.
R: Infinite Duress

Warwick launches himself in the selected direction, ignoring crowd control, and he either stops when he reaches the maximum distance, or when he hits an enemy champion.
Upon hitting an enemy champion, he grounds them, and for up to 1.5s he suppresses them, which deals magic damage every 0.25s, up to a total of 525 at rank 3, plus 167% of his bonus AD.
Warwick also heals for all of the damage he does to the enemy champion during his ultimate, which also applies on hit effects and lifesteal.
When was Warwick released in League of Legends?

Warwick was released in Alpha Week 2 of League of Legends, so he’s been here since the very beginning! This was in 2009, but almost 8 years later, he received his rework.
Warwick was reworked in Patch 7.02, which was in pre-season of Season 7. The reworked Warwick was released to hunt down enemies on the Rift on January 25, 2017.
Where is Warwick from in League of Legends?

Warwick is from Zaun, and with the release of Arcane, we actually got a lot of backstory around him and who he was before becoming the wolf. Riot Games have recently announced that everything that happened in Arcane is canon with the League of Legends lore, so we know that all of this is correct!
Warwick’s Age in League of Legends

Warwick was born between 951 AN and 956 AN, which places him at around 41 years of age to 46 years of age.
This fits with the character that becomes Warwick in Arcane!
Warwick’s Voice Actor in League of Legends

Warwick’s voice actor is Dave B. Mitchell ever since his rework in 2017, but before that it was Brian Sommer.
Dave B. Mitchell actually voices Hoskel in the Arcane tv show, rather than Warwick, the champion he has voiced since 2017 in League of Legends.
How to play Warwick jungle
With over 300 likes, Darksword255’s Warwick guide is one of the most popular Warwick guides you can find online and we summarized it for you below:
Warwick works best with Precision runes. Use Press the Attack, Triumph,
Legend: Alacrity, and Last Stand. These runes give you more damage and help you survive early fights. For your secondary runes, use Resolve. Choose Bone Plating and Revitalize for extra defense and better healing. This setup is strong in most matchups and gives you a good balance of damage and durability.
Starting Items
Start with Emberknife and Refillable Potion in almost every game. Emberknife gives Red Smite, which reduces enemy damage and makes you stronger in duels. Avoid using Hailblade unless you try an AP build, which is not recommended. Refillable Potion helps you stay healthy and gives good value early on.
Boots Choices
- Plated Steelcaps: Best against teams with strong AD or lots of auto attackers.
- Mercury’s Treads: Best against teams with a lot of AP or crowd control.
- Berserker’s Greaves or Sorcerer’s Shoes: Only use these if you are far ahead or playing for fun.
Core Item Build
Your core items should include Titanic Hydra, Sunfire Aegis, and Spirit Visage. This build gives damage, healing, and durability. Do not build Divine Sunderer in the jungle. It works better in top lane. Stick to tank items to stay effective in fights and skirmishes.
Alternative Korean Build
Start with Serrated Dirk if you want more early damage. Build your usual tank items after that. You can sell Dirk later or build Umbral Glaive if you are ahead. This build helps you dominate early and snowball faster.
Situational Items
- Thornmail: Use it against champions with a lot of healing.
- Force of Nature: Use it when you need to resist AP damage and move faster.
- Dead Man’s Plate: Good when you need more movement and armor.
- Gargoyle Stoneplate: Use it when you face burst damage or if you are the only tank on your team.
Jungle Path and Game Plan
Warwick is not a full-clear jungler. He works best when he ganks early and controls the game pace.
- Top Side 3-Camp Clear: Use this when your bot or mid lanes are easy to gank. This path lets you create early pressure.
- Bot Side 3-Camp Clear: Safer and good if your mid or bot lanes are playing passively. Lets you contest the top Scuttle or counter-gank.
- Full Clear: Avoid this unless you are far behind or invaded. It wastes Warwick’s early-game strength.
Early Game Tips
- Warwick can solo Dragon at level 4, so take advantage of that when it is safe.
- Don’t gank if your laners cannot follow. Warwick needs help to lock down kills.
- Always farm between plays. Don’t wait in a bush too long.
- Don’t chase bad fights. Warwick is strong, but map awareness matters.
You need to play with tempo. Warwick becomes weaker if you don’t act early. Use your lead to secure dragons, Rift Heralds, or enemy camps. Control the game, and you will carry most matches.
Is Warwick a good jungle in League of Legends?
Yes, Warwick is a strong jungle pick in solo queue. However, it is not preferred among professional players and in the esports scene. His early-game pressure, strong sustain, and simple playstyle make him great for players who want to learn the jungle role in their solo queue games.
Top 5 Warwick counters
Here are five of the best Warwick counters that you can dominate the jungle:
Trundle
Trundle is a hard counter to Warwick. His Subjugate (R) steals Warwick’s defenses and makes him weaker in team fights. Trundle also heals a lot during trades and wins 1v1 duels. His Pillar (E) blocks Warwick’s path, which makes it harder for Warwick to chase or escape.

Rammus
Rammus can shut Warwick down with high armor and taunt. His Defensive Ball Curl (W) reflects damage and reduces incoming attacks, which hurts Warwick’s auto-based kit. Warwick has a hard time fighting Rammus because he cannot break through his defenses. If Rammus builds Thornmail, Warwick loses most of his healing in fights.

Nunu & Willump
Nunu is strong early and ganks often. He uses Snowball Barrage (W) to start fights and Absolute Zero (R) to zone enemies. Warwick struggles to stop Nunu’s fast pathing and high objective control. Nunu also builds tanky and takes Smite fights better than Warwick in most cases.

Volibear
Volibear wins early trades and has strong tower dives. He can stop Warwick’s ultimate with his Q (Thundering Smash) and R (Stormbringer). Volibear’s bonus health and shield let him survive Warwick’s burst. He also scales better into mid game if he gets a lead.

Kindred
Kindred is a ranged jungler who can kite Warwick easily. Her Lamb’s Respite (R) stops Warwick from finishing kills. She moves fast, marks jungle camps, and forces Warwick to play defensively. Warwick needs to commit to all-ins, but Kindred’s kit prevents those fights from going in his favor.

Is Warwick Jinx's dad?
Warwick is not Jinx’s real father. Jinx and Vi were raised by Vander, who looked after them in Zaun. He was not their biological parent, but he acted like a father.
In the Arcane series, Vander later disappears, and many fans believe he becomes Warwick. Riot has given hints that support this idea. Warwick’s lore says he was once a kind man who lost control after painful experiments. This matches Vander’s story.
So, even though Warwick is not Jinx’s actual dad, he was her adoptive father before he became a monster.
Who turns into Warwick?
The man who becomes Warwick is most likely Vander. He was a leader in Zaun and tried to keep peace. After he was captured, a scientist named Singed turned him into a beast through experiments.
These experiments changed Vander’s body and mind. He became stronger, faster, and much harder to control. The new version of him became known as Warwick. He hunts criminals and remembers only small pieces of his past life.
Even though Riot has not confirmed everything directly, the clues in both the Arcane show and Warwick’s lore make it clear. Vander becomes Warwick after he is changed in the lab.
Warwick is awesome, but if he isn’t for you, then no problem. We have tons of League of Legends champion guides for you to have a look at and find your perfect main, and below are just a few of them!
