Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is shutting down after just over a year. Activision has removed the game from the App Store and Google Play, stopped all updates, and turned off in-game purchases. Players who already have the game can still play it, but no new players can download it. Why did Call of Duty Warzone Mobile shut down, and what led Activision to this hard decision? Here is everything that went down throughout last year for Activision and the players!

Why is Call of Duty Warzone Mobile shutting down?

Activision decided to shut down Warzone Mobile because the game did not meet its goals. The company brought the Warzone experience to mobile in a very accurate way, but it did not perform as well as expected, especially considering its success on PC and console.

The number of players dropped over time, and revenue slowed down. The game had trouble keeping users engaged. It also had fewer purchases compared to earlier mobile titles like Call of Duty: Mobile.

Activision explained that mobile users play differently from PC and console players. The company saw that Warzone Mobile could not build the same kind of strong player base. They believe that ending support now is the best decision, even though many players will feel disappointed. You can find more information about the Call of Duty Warzone Mobile shutdown decision on Activision’s official page dedicated to the closure.

To make things easier for players, Activision is offering in-game rewards in Call of Duty: Mobile. Players who still have Warzone Mobile installed can claim their unspent COD Points and get bonuses in the other game.

When is Call of Duty Warzone Mobile shutting down?

The game was removed from the App Store and Google Play on May 18, 2025. Players who downloaded it before that date can still access it. They can continue playing and using their content.

However, there are no more updates. Social features no longer work. In-game purchases with real money are also turned off. Activision has not shared an exact date for the full server shutdown. Players will receive a notice before the servers go offline.

CoD Mobile Warzone shuts down despite impressive start

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had a strong launch. It officially went live on March 21, 2024. Before that, it had more than 50 million pre-registrations. In its first four days, it made $1.4 million. In the first month, it earned $6.92 million.

At first, many users praised the game. They said the shooting and movement felt smooth. Some players even liked it more than Call of Duty: Mobile. It also supported cross-progression with the console and PC versions, which was a key feature.

However, things changed quickly. By mid-April 2024, weekly revenue dropped below $1 million. Many users reported problems like lag, overheating, and device crashes. There were also complaints about too many bots in online matches.

Even with strong download numbers, the game could not keep up the excitement. Many fans are now sad to see it go. The game started strong but lost its momentum soon after launch.

Everything that went wrong for CoD Warzone Mobile

Many problems led to the shutdown of Warzone Mobile. First, the game had serious performance issues. Players reported lag, long loading times, and crashes. On some phones, the game made devices overheat.

Second, the game used too many bots. This hurt the experience for users who wanted real competition. Players said that matches felt empty and not challenging. The Season 3 update made this problem worse.

Third, social features did not work well. While the game allowed shared progression with console and PC, it did not fully support cross-platform play. Many players found this confusing and limited.

Monetization also became a problem. After the first few weeks, spending in the game dropped. By April 2024, revenue was falling. In comparison, Call of Duty: Mobile made $44 million in its first month, which shows how far Warzone Mobile fell short.

Lastly, the game failed to keep players interested over time. While many people downloaded it, most did not stay active. Without a stable user base, it became harder for Activision to support the game.

Activision has now removed all ways to spend real money in the game. Players can still redeem their COD Points, but they cannot buy anything new. They can also log into Call of Duty: Mobile and get rewards if they use the same Activision account.

The company has not announced when the servers will shut down, but that will likely happen soon. For now, the game is still playable for those who installed it before May 19, 2025. However, the end is near, and no new content will be released.

Call of Duty Warzone has become one of the most played online shooters in the world when it was first launched for the PC. Considering CoD’s name and an experienced team behind the game, many expected a better project with cumulatively ascending graphic in terms of player count. However, things didn’t go as expected. No other game is safe in the mobile world anymore.
