How many maps are on Apex Legends?
Currently, Apex Legends includes twelve maps. These consist of five large Battle Royale maps and six smaller maps for the Mixtape mode. Additionally, a new map called E-District has been introduced recently.
Battle Royale maps
The game started with Kings Canyon and has added more maps like World’s Edge, Olympus, Storm Point, Broken Moon, and E-District. Every season brings a new map or updates an existing one, which keeps the gameplay exciting.
Mixtape Maps
The Mixtape mode, previously known as Arenas, features six smaller maps. These maps are Party Crasher, Phase Runner, Overflow, Encore, Habitat 4, and Drop-Off. They are designed for fast-paced combat.

Battle Royale maps
Let’s start with the battle royale maps:
E-District
Previously a bustling district on the planet Gaea, E-District was known for its luxury shopping and busy business center, highlighted by its neon-lit nightlife that attracted both locals and tourists. A severe storm damaged its primary power source, leading to unrest and eventually the area's abandonment. The Syndicate later saw potential in the abandoned district. They cleaned up after a chemical spill, restored power, and transformed it into a glamorous arena for the Apex Games.

Broken Moon
Broken Moon orbits the planet Boreas and has a history of catastrophe followed by rejuvenation. A comet striking Cleo, the moon, caused severe environmental and structural damage. The Cleo Recovery Council initiated a large-scale terraforming operation, employing innovative technologies to restore its habitability. The moon now serves as a challenging battlefield for the Apex Games, complete with evidence of its ongoing reconstruction.

Kings Canyon
Located on the planet Solace, Kings Canyon was the site of significant IMC operations, including military facilities and R&D centers. After the IMC left, the Syndicate took over, modifying the terrain and repurposing the area for the Apex Games. The map features diverse environments, ranging from lush valleys to sandy areas, offering unique combat situations each time.

World’s Edge
On the planet Talos, World’s Edge was developed around geothermal towers designed to harness the planet's volcanic activity for energy. An explosion disrupted this system, creating a stark landscape of ice and fire. This map offers a mix of natural and engineered disasters, providing a complex and visually striking environment for combat.

Olympus
Olympus was designed as a utopian city floating above the planet Psamathe, meant to house the brightest minds and foster scientific breakthroughs. However, after a disastrous experiment led to the creation of the Phase Rift, the city was abandoned. Repurposed for the Apex Games, it now features stunning futuristic architecture and dangerous new elements like the virus from the Icarus fleet, adding layers of risk to its beauty.

Storm Point
Storm Point is situated on the planet Gaea and was initially targeted for its rich resources. Frequent and intense storms made settlements challenging, but the IMC attempted to harness these conditions by installing storm catchers. After the IMC's departure, the technology was left to decay, leading to even more severe weather conditions. Rediscovered by the Mercenary Syndicate, it has been adapted into a wild and unpredictable arena filled with natural and technological hazards.

Mixtape maps
Now let’s move on to the Mixtape mode maps:
Party Crasher
This map is set in a formerly bustling urban area on Solace, where the Mirage Voyage party ship has crashed into a plaza. The crash site now serves as a unique battlefield that blends tight indoor environments with exposed urban spaces, ideal for close-quarters combat.

Phase Runner
Phase Runner is located on Talos and features a high-tech facility built around a prototype Phase Runner, a device that allows instantaneous travel between two points on the map. This element introduces a strategic component to the gameplay, enabling rapid movement and backstabs.

Overflow
Also on Talos, Overflow centers around Hephaestus Station, a facility designed to divert lava flows. The map is characterized by narrow pathways bordered by molten lava, challenging players to navigate carefully while engaging in combat.

Encore
Located on Boreas, Encore was the arena where the legend Seer made his name. The design of the map encourages dramatic gameplay, with open sightlines and a layout that favors aggressive tactics, reflecting the theatrical nature of its star.

Habitat 4
On the planet Gaea, Habitat 4 serves as a natural preserve and was once a research base for studying Leviathans. The map features dense jungle terrain, providing plenty of cover and stealth opportunities, contrasting with the remains of scientific outposts.

Drop-Off
Situated high above the skyline of Malta on Psamathe, Drop-Off takes place on the rooftop of Hammond Manufacturing Tower. This setting offers unique gameplay dynamics with its verticality, enabling long-range engagements and multi-level firefights.
Each of these maps in Apex Legends contributes to the game's larger narrative, adding depth and context to the battles fought within their confines.

Apex ranked map rotation
Map rotation keeps the game dynamic in Apex Legends. Ranked Leagues feature two maps per season split, changing halfway through to maintain a competitive edge. Play Apex mode rotates three maps approximately every hour, allowing players to adapt to different settings quickly. Here is the season 22 Apex Legends map rotation:
- Broken Moon
- E-District
- Storm Point
Why did Respawn get rid of Apex Arenas?
Respawn removed the Arenas mode from Apex Legends because it did not fit the main goal of the game. The developers said Arenas did not help players learn or prepare for the main battle royale mode. Many players stopped playing it over time, which made matchmaking slow and unbalanced.
The mode also divided the player base between Arenas and the main mode, reducing activity in both. Respawn wanted players to focus on modes that offered more excitement and teamwork. While Arenas returned for a short time in Season 25, it is not a permanent mode yet. The developers are studying how players react before making any final decisions.
How often does Apex rotate maps?
Apex Legends changes its maps on a regular schedule. In casual matches, also known as Pubs, the map usually rotates every 60 to 90 minutes. This keeps the gameplay fresh and allows players to try different strategies.
In ranked matches, the map rotation is slower. Each ranked map can stay active for a full day or even for an entire split of the season. This helps players master the map and plan better for competitive play. When a new map or major update arrives, Respawn usually adds it to the rotation for testing before making it a permanent option.
The rotation includes new maps or updates each season, giving players new environments to explore and master. If you enjoyed this guide, don’t forget to check out our other Apex Legends pieces:
