Hytale farming explained: How to farm, seeds, crops, animals & more
Grow, automate & dominateON THIS PAGE:

Hytale farming provides food, crafting materials, and long-term sustainability for exploration and combat. That’s why it’s great that you’re here, this guide explains everything you need to know about Hytale farming — tools, crops, upgrades, animals, fishing, and how to scale efficiently from early game to Tier 10.
Getting started with Hytale farming
To begin Hytale farming, you need the Farmer’s Workbench. The Farmer’s Workbench is the center of all farming progression. It allows you to craft tools, unlock seeds, and upgrade your farming tier. Get:
- 6 × Tree Logs
- 20 × Plant Fiber

Plant Fiber is gathered from tall grass. Logs come from chopping trees. Place the Farmer’s Workbench near storage to streamline crafting and seed management.
Farmer’s Workbench upgrades
Hytale farming becomes more advanced as you upgrade the Farmer’s Workbench.
Hytale farming tools
Efficient Hytale farming depends on two core tools:
- Crude Hoe
- Watering Can
- Wooden Bucket
- Fertilizer
1. Crude Hoe
The Crude Hoe turns dirt or grass blocks into tilled soil. Crops can only grow on tilled soil. You can craft it using:
- 2 x Any Tree Trunk
- 1 x Any Stone

How to use:
- Clear plants or debris from the ground.
- Right-click the dirt block with the Hoe to till it.
Without tilled soil, seeds cannot be planted.
2. Watering Can
The Watering Can significantly improves crop growth speed. You can craft it using:
- 3 x Iron Ingot

- Fill it at any water source.
- Water crops after planting.
- Watered crops grow about 2.5× faster than dry crops.
Watering is not optional if you want efficient Hytale farming. While rain can water crops naturally, it is inconsistent and should not replace manual watering.
3. Wooden Bucket
The Wooden Bucket is a useful farming tool you can craft at the Farmer’s Workbench (Tier 1) using 3× Any Wood and 1× Iron Ingot.

It can be filled with water and used to collect and store water, which helps you set up a reliable water source near your fields. You can also use it to milk cows if you have livestock, making it a versatile early-game utility item.
4. Fertilizer
Fertilizer is a farming item that increases crop growth speed. When applied to tilled soil, it helps plants mature faster, improving overall farm efficiency. Fertilizer is crafted using:
- 10× Poop.
- 10× Essence of Life
- 5× Any Type Of Vegetable
How to plant & crop farms in Hytale
Follow the growth cycle to crop your Hytele farm:
- Use the Crude Hoe to turn dirt or grass into tilled soil. Crops only grow on tilled blocks.

- Select a seed bag and right-click on tilled soil to plant.
- Use the Watering Can after planting. Watered crops grow about 2.5× faster than dry ones.
- Additionally, you can apply Fertilizer to tilled soil to boost growth speed even further.

- Let crops reach full maturity, then press F to harvest. Replant immediately — or use Eternal Seeds to auto-replant.

Crops go through multiple growth stages. Only harvest when fully grown to maximize yield.
All Hytale seed types
Here are all the seed bags and plant starters available through the Farmer’s Workbench in Hytale:

Eternal Seeds
In Hytale, Eternal Seeds are rare, high-value farming items that automatically replant themselves after harvest. When you harvest a crop grown from Eternal Seeds:
- The crop is collected normally.
- The plant is automatically replanted.
- No additional seeds are consumed.
- No manual replanting is required.

This removes one of the most time-consuming parts of Hytale farming — reseeding fields after every harvest.
Hytale Saplings
In addition to crops, Hytale saplings are an important part of sustainable farming and resource management, such as:
- Beech Sapling
- Birch Sapling
- Ash Sapling
- Oak Sapling
- Spruce Sapling
- Frozen Sapling
- Redwood Sapling
- Cedar Sapling
- Dry Sapling
- Palm Sapling
- Apple Sapling

Trees don’t regrow on their own once cut down — you must craft and plant sapling items to grow new ones. Saplings are crafted at the Farmer’s Workbench using Essence of Life and other basic materials, then placed on grass or dirt, where they slowly grow into full trees over time without watering.
Cooking in Hytale
Raw crops provide basic hunger restoration. Cooking increases value.
Use a cooking station, such as a Chef’s Stove, to:
- Create meals with higher healing value.
- Improve stamina recovery.
- Gain better survival bonuses.

Investing in cooking enhances the benefits of Hytale farming.
Animal integration in Hytale farming
Advanced Hytale farming includes livestock. Animals such as:
- Cows
- Chickens
provide manure used in fertilizer production.
This creates a sustainable farming loop:
Crops → Animal Feed → Manure → Fertilizer → Faster Crops
Combining crop farming and animal farming creates a reliable resource system.
How to farm animals in Hytale
Animal farming in Hytale focuses on capturing animals and collecting useful resources.
Capture animals
- Craft a Capture Crate at the Farmer’s Workbench.
- Use it on small animals like chickens, rabbits, or piglets.
- Place them inside fenced pens.

Feed and manage
- Hold their preferred food (e.g., wheat or carrots) to attract them.
- Use a Feed Bag to keep them nearby.
- Animals are not permanently tame.

Resources you get
- Poop → Fertilizer for crops
- Meat → Food
- Wool, Eggs, Leather → Crafting materials

Breeding is not currently available. Animal farming mainly supports fertilizer production and food supply.
How to farm fish in Hytale
You can farm fish in Hytale, but not with a traditional fishing rod. There is no built-in fishing. Instead, fishing is done passively using Fishing Traps, which act like automated fish collectors you place in deep water.
To farm fish in Hytale:
- Upgrade Farmer’s Workbench to Tier 2.
- Craft and place Fishing Traps in deep water.
- Any Wood ×10
- Essence of Life ×50
- Plant Fiber ×20
- Iron Ingot ×1
- Optionally add Fish Bait to attract rarer fish.
- Any Fruit ×3
- Essence of Life ×5
- Check traps periodically to collect fish.
- Cook fish at a Chef’s Stove for better food items.

If you don’t use Fishing Traps, you can still get fish manually by attacking fish in shallow water, though this is slower and less efficient than using traps.
Hytale farming tips to remember
- Always water immediately after planting.
- Expand fields gradually to avoid overwhelming maintenance.
- Keep storage near your fields.
- Upgrade your Farmer’s Workbench as soon as possible.
- Never waste high-tier seeds.
Hytale farming is a core progression system in Hytale, supporting food, crafting, and long-term survival. By upgrading the Farmer’s Workbench, using the right tools, and managing crops efficiently, you can create a steady resource supply.
Adding animals for fertilizer and using Fishing Traps for passive food further strengthens your farm. With smart planning and gradual expansion, Hytale farming becomes a reliable, self-sustaining system that supports every stage of the game.
