Want to change your Roblox background? Roblox now gives you more customization options than it used to, but there's an important distinction: changing your Roblox theme, using the newer Roblox Plus app themes, and installing a completely custom background are three different things.

How do Roblox Plus App themes work?

The most advanced and official way to customize your Roblox look is through Roblox Plus App Themes.

Roblox Plus subscribers get access to a collection of curated, official app themes that go beyond the basic Light and Dark modes. These themes can change the overall visual style of the Roblox app, including interface colors and design accents.

Roblox launched this feature with 10+ themes, and more are expected to be added over time.

So, how to change a Roblox Background

If you have Roblox Plus, here’s how to use them:

1. Open the Roblox app.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Device preferences.
4. Find the available App Themes section.
5. Preview the themes.
6. Select the one you want.

You can switch themes anytime, and your choice only applies to the device you’re using.

Do you need Roblox Plus?

• No for basic themes (Light, Dark, System)
• Yes for the extra curated App Themes

So if you just want Dark Mode, Roblox Plus is not required.

Standard Roblox themes (Light, Dark, System)

Everyone can switch between Roblox’s built-in themes without any subscription.

If by "background" you mean Roblox’s overall color scheme, you can change it directly through settings.

Roblox desktop app

1. Open the Roblox desktop app and sign in.
2. Click the three dots (...) in the left menu.
3. Select Settings.
4. Open Device preferences.
5. Find Device level theme.
6. Choose Light, Dark, or System.
7. System follows your device’s theme automatically.
8. Light/Dark forces Roblox to use that style.

1. Sign in to Roblox in your browser.
2. Click the gear icon (top right).
3. Go to Settings.
4. Open Browser preferences.
5. Find Theme.
6. Choose System, Light, or Dark.

Mobile Roblox theme

1. Open the Roblox app.
2. Go to More.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Select Device preferences.
5. Choose Light, Dark, or System.

Can you use a custom picture as your Roblox background?

Roblox does not allow you to upload a custom image as the full app background.

Some users use browser extensions to change how Roblox looks on their own device, but:

• These changes are local only
• Other players cannot see them
• They are not official Roblox features

Be careful with third-party tools and never enter your password into them.

Roblox avatar backgrounds

Roblox is also rolling out avatar backgrounds, which are different from app themes.

These are used for profile and avatar customization, not the entire Roblox interface.

Roblox Plus subscribers may get exclusive avatar backgrounds, and UGC creators will eventually be able to create and sell them through the Marketplace.
