Want to team up with a friend in Fortnite? Grab your controllers, follow our guide, and dive into the ultimate co-op experience. We’ll explain how to play split screen on Fortnite easily. But first, we need to find an answer to an important question.

Can you play split screen on Fortnite?

Split-screen mode is exclusively for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. PC and Nintendo Switch users remain without this feature, as Epic Games hasn’t extended it to these platforms.

Also, Fortnite split-screen mode isn't supported across all game modes. Make sure to test it out in compatible modes such as Duos or Squads for the best experience.

How to play split screen in Fortnite

Local Multiplayer (split-screen or couch co-op) lets you and a friend play Fortnite together on the same PlayStation or Xbox console. Enjoy game modes like LEGO Fortnite, Battle Royale, and Zero Build side-by-side.

    1. Launch Fortnite and enter the lobby.
    2. Connect a second controller.
    3. Select the second player’s console account (Guest and Quick Play accounts aren’t supported).
    4. Link the second player’s Epic Account to access their Locker, Battle Pass, and progress.
    5. Once linked, the second player appears in the lobby and you’re ready to play.

Look for games tagged with Local Players or check the Great for Local Multiplayer row in Discover.

Is Fortnite split screen not working? Here is what to do

Listen, even the best gamers face challenges sometimes. Here’s how to tackle the Fortnite split screen not working issues:

    • Console compatibility: Confirm that split-screen mode is available on your console (limited to Xbox and PlayStation).
    • Game version: Ensure your Fortnite version is up-to-date. Updates sometimes fix bugs causing split-screen malfunctions.
    • Controller connection: Double-check that both controllers are properly connected and functional.
    • Account sign-in: Make sure both players sign into separate accounts before initiating split-screen mode.
    • Main menu navigation: Ensure you access the Main Menu before initiating split-screen mode.
    • Invitation process: Follow the correct steps to invite the second player and ensure they’ve successfully signed in.
    • Internet stability: Check your internet connection for stability; split-screen mode requires a solid connection.
    • Restart devices: Sometimes, a simple restart of the console might resolve the issue.
    • Game mode compatibility: Remember, split-screen isn’t available in all game modes. Ensure you're trying it in supported modes like Duos or Squads.
    • Restrictions and disconnections: Understand that disconnecting or leaving the match by one player ends the split-screen session for both.
Settings and preferences: Verify that both players have similar language settings for split-screen compatibility.
    • Contact support: If all else fails, consider reaching out to Epic Games’ support for further assistance. They might have specific solutions or updates addressing split-screen issues.

    Know the boundaries

Before you go all-in, here are some things to note: This feature is exclusive to PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Mobiles, Nintendo Switch, PCs, Creative and Limited Time Modes, Save the World, Ranked Mode, and Solos won’t let you split-screen. It’s just how the Fortnite cookie crumbles.

So, get ready to dominate the battlefield with your gaming buddy! While split-screen might have its limits, it’s still an awesome way to team up and conquer the world of Fortnite together.

How to get the most out of Fortnite split screen

In split-screen mode, communication becomes your secret weapon. Constantly share information with your teammate. Effective communication is the key to coordinated attacks and staying ahead of the game.

Stick together like glue! Whether you're scavenging for loot or engaging in intense battles, unity ensures better survival odds. The closer, the better.

Your inventories aren’t shared, so plan your loadouts wisely. Opt for different weapons and utilities to cover a wider range of combat scenarios.

Watch both screens! Observing your teammate's perspective offers a broader field of vision and helps predict enemy movements.

Ensure a stable internet connection. If one player disconnects, it ends the session for both. Stable connections ensure uninterrupted fun.

Practice and patience will lead to improved coordination and gameplay.

Above all, remember to have fun! Enjoy the game with your game buddy!
