Exploring Repudiation in League of Legends: What is it and how to use it
Repudiation can be a bit confusing to use. Here's how it works.Ambessa’s Repudiation works as both a shield and a counterattack. You can block incoming damage and deal bonus damage if you time it correctly. To improve with Ambessa, you need to learn how to use Repudiation effectively. In this article, you will find everything you need to know about this ability, how it connects to her story, how well she scales in the game, and more!
What is Repudiation in League of Legends?
Repudiation is Ambessa’s W ability. When you use it, Ambessa gains a shield for 1.5 seconds and braces for 0.5 seconds. After that, she slams the ground and deals physical damage to all nearby enemies. If the shield blocks damage from a champion, large monster, or turret during the brace, the slam deals 50% more damage.
The shield strength goes from 50 to 320, and it scales with 150% of Ambessa’s bonus AD. The base damage of the slam ranges from 50 to 150, scaling with 50% bonus AD. If you block damage during the brace, the slam damage increases to 75 to 225, scaling with 75% bonus AD.
Repudiation has a 325 range, a cooldown between 18 and 14 seconds, and costs 70 energy. It can also interact with her passive, Drakehound’s Step. When you use Repudiation during a dash, the slam happens at the end of the movement.

How to use Repudiation
To use Repudiation well, you need good timing. The shield only lasts for a short moment, so you must predict when the enemy will attack. Cast W just before the enemy hits you. If you block their damage, you gain bonus damage on your slam.
You can start with a Q or E to dash in, then use W to block the counterattack. After the slam, use auto-attacks or your E again to follow up. This gives you both defense and pressure in a trade.
In teamfights, you can use W to block important abilities like Sett’s punch or Kennen’s ult. After you block the damage, slam to hit multiple targets around you. This can help your team control the fight and create space.
Here are some ways to use Repudiation:
- In lane: Use it to block poke or engage. Try not to waste it, since the cooldown is long.
- In skirmishes: Dash in with Q, block burst damage with W, then slam for high damage.
- In teamfights: Use W to block key crowd control or burst. Slam to interrupt and pressure enemies.
- Against towers or jungle camps: Use the shield to stay healthy when diving or clearing camps.
Combos
- Quick trade: Q → Dash → W → Slam → Auto → E
- Escape: W → Brace → Dash away using passive
- Chase: E → Dash → W → Slam → Auto
Tips:
- Don’t use W randomly. Save it for key moments.
- Use W before the enemy hits you, not after.
- Use your dash or Q to create the right angle for W
Ambessa’s lore and Repudiation integration
Ambessa Medarda is a powerful general from Noxus. In Arcane, she appears as Mel Medarda’s mother. She is cold, focused, and willing to sacrifice anything to protect her family’s name and power.
As a child, Ambessa survived a brutal battle, which made her learn to respect strength and fear nothing. Later, a vision of a wolf made her even more determined to fight and lead. These experiences shaped her into a warrior who sees pain and sacrifice as tools to win.
Repudiation fits perfectly into her story. The shield shows her ability to stand firm under pressure. The slam reflects her way of striking back with more power after surviving danger.

Does Ambessa scale in League of Legends?
Ambessa is not a late-game carry like Jax or Camille. She scales well into the mid-game, especially after getting 2 or 3 items. Her power peaks during this phase. She becomes strong in fights and can kill squishy targets or win 1v1 trades.
In the late game, her damage starts to drop. She does not scale with true damage or percentage health like other top laners. If enemies build armor, she has trouble finishing them. Still, she can remain useful by finding picks or disrupting fights with her ultimate and W.
Ambessa’s Power by Game Time:
You should focus on getting a lead in the mid-game. Use your kit to pressure objectives and make quick kills. Do not rely on scaling into the late game.
