Want to smelt ores twice as fast? The Minecraft blast furnace recipe is your key to upgrading your smelting game! In this Minecraft recipe guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know—what a blast furnace does, how to craft one, and how to use it effectively.

What does a blast furnace do in Minecraft?

A blast furnace in Minecraft is a specialized smelting block that is used to process ores, raw metals, and metal-based tools and armor twice as fast as a regular furnace. It’s an essential upgrade for any player looking to speed up their smelting operations.

A blast furnace can only smelt specific items, unlike a regular furnace:

    • Raw ores (Iron, Gold, Copper)
    • Ore blocks (Deepslate/Iron/Gold blocks)
    • Iron, Gold, and Chainmail tools & armor (yields 1 nugget per item)

    What it cannot smelt

    • Stone or sand (use a normal furnace)
    • Food items (use a Smoker instead)
    • Non-metallic materials (clay, glass, etc.)

So, what is a blast furnace used for in Minecraft? Here are 6 things to know

    1. Smelts ores twice as fast as a regular furnace.
    2. Processes only metal-related items, including raw ores, ore blocks, and metal tools/armor.
    3. Consumes fuel at double speed, but the fuel efficiency per item remains the same.
    4. Produces less experience (XP) compared to a regular furnace.
    5. Works with hoppers, making it useful for automation setups.
    6. Emits light when in use, similar to a normal furnace.

Blast Furnaces naturally generate in Armorer houses in villages. If you stumble across one, you can "borrow" it with your pickaxe (preferably while the Armorer isn’t looking). If you prefer to craft your own Blast Furnace, you’ll need:

    • 1 Furnace: Craft it using 8 cobblestones in a crafting table.
    • 5 Iron Ingots: Smelt Raw Iron in a furnace.
    • 3 Smooth Stone: Mine Cobblestone and smelt it in a furnace to get Stone. Then, smelt Stone again to get Smooth Stone.

How to craft a blast furnace in Minecraft

    • Open your crafting table to access the 3x3 crafting grid.
    • Arrange the materials in the Crafting Grid
      • In the first row, place 3 Iron Ingots.
      • In the second row, place 1 Iron Ingot in the first box, 1 Furnace in the second box, and 1 Iron Ingot in the third box.
      • In the third row, place 3 Smooth Stone.
    • Once the blast furnace appears in the result box, drag it into your inventory.

How to use blast furnace in Minecraft

Using a blast furnace is just like using a regular furnace:

    1. Place the blast furnace anywhere in your base.
    2. Add fuel (coal, charcoal, lava bucket, etc.).
    3. Insert ore, tools, or armor to begin smelting.
    4. Watch it work twice as fast!

You can also use hoppers to automate input and output, making it a perfect addition to any efficient ore-processing setup.

What is the point of a blast furnace in Minecraft?

A blast furnace smelts ores, tools, and armor. It works two times faster than a normal furnace. You can use it to smelt raw iron, gold, and copper. It also smelts iron or gold tools, weapons, and armor. But it does not smelt food, stone, or blocks like sand. It uses fuel faster because it smelts quicker. Many players use it to save time while processing large amounts of ore. A blast furnace also gives a villager the armorer job if placed near them.

What can be smelted in a blast furnace?

You can smelt metal items in a blast furnace. This includes raw iron, raw gold, raw copper, iron and gold tools, weapons, and armor. You can also smelt chainmail armor. If you try to smelt food or other blocks like cobblestone, the blast furnace will not work. It only accepts metal-related items.

Is a smoker better than a furnace?

A smoker is better than a furnace when cooking food. It cooks meat and fish two times faster than a furnace. But it only works with food. You cannot use it for ores or blocks. If you want to smelt ores, use a blast furnace or a normal furnace. A smoker is best when you need to cook food quickly. A furnace is more flexible because it smelts both food and other items.
