Hey, we get it – forking out for that gorgeous new Vandal skin is a commitment, especially if you’ve not yet breached into the realm of buying new skins in VALORANT. Some players just want to keep things free and breezy, and we respect that.

Whether that’s you, or you just need a new knife skin but your bank account’s drier than the Sahara desert and payday feels lightyears away, we’ve got you covered.

Bear in mind, most of the skins you can grab for free are pretty basic ones, but there are a few ways VALORANT lets you customize your weapons without parting with your hard-earned real-world money.

We’re here to show you how to do exactly that in this no-nonsense guide. Read on, frugal agent…

How to get free skins

In VALORANT, you can get free skins in a few ways…

Battle Pass

Get your free VALORANT skins by completing all the chapters of the current Battle Pass. You don’t have to buy the pass to get free rewards (though your rewards will be significantly greater if you do lay down the 1000 VP for access to the premium track).

Each free-track Battle Pass run tends to offer the following rewards:

  • 3x player cards
  • 3x player titles
  • 3x gun buddies
  • 2x sprays
  • 2x lots of 10 Radianite Points
  • 1x free sidearm skin

For those prepared to spend 1000 VP (roughly $10) on a Battle Pass, as you earn XP and level up, you’ll also unlock the current season’s exclusive weapon skins for your efforts. While that’s not exactly “free”, it’s as close to free as you’ll get in exchange for some solid skins.

Agent Rewards

Every agent has a selection of 10 different rewards you can unlock using VALORANT’s new Kingdom Credits in-game currency. Most of these are cosmetic enhancements related to that agent, including one sidearm skin.

With 22 agents in the current roster, that’s 22 free pistol skins up for grabs. Here they are in agent order…

  • Brimstone – Peacekeeper Sheriff
  • Viper – Snakebite Shorty
  • Omen – Soul Silencer Ghost
  • Killjoy – Wunderkind Shorty
  • Cypher – Hush Ghost
  • Sova – Protektor Sheriff
  • Sage – Final Chamber Classic
  • Phoenix – Spitfire Frenzy
  • Jett – Game Over Sheriff
  • Reyna – Vendetta Ghost
  • Raze – Pistolinha Classic
  • Breach – Ragnarocker Frenzy
  • Skye – Swooping Frenzy
  • Yoru – Death Wish Sheriff
  • Astra – Eclipse Ghost
  • KAY/O – FIRE-ARM Classic
  • Chamber – Finesse Classic
  • Neon – Live Wire Frenzy
  • Fade – Karabasan Shorty
  • Harbor – Wayfarer Sheriff
  • Gekko – Sidekick Shorty
  • Deadlock – Resolution Classic

Head over to the Agents tab, choose the agent/skin that catches your eye, and spend your hard-earned Kingdom Credits as you see fit!

Go forth, agent, and build up your Kingdom Credits to unlock those Agent Rewards or get accessories from previous Battle Passes.

Prime Gaming gives VALORANT players free skins now and then
Prime Gaming gives VALORANT players free skins now and then

Prime Gaming

This one’s a no-brainer for anyone who has Amazon Prime. Prime Gaming is one of those lesser-known Prime extras that gives gamers a load of freebies now and then.

While there’s no guarantee you’ll get a free skin through Prime Gaming, it’s certainly possible. In fact, the Wayfinder Shorty, one of the rarest skins in VALORANT reached players in this exact way in January 2022.

Gaming companions

By joining a gaming companion like Stryda, you can maximize the rewards for simply playing VALORANT and effectively earn some free skins.

Giveaways

It’s never a guaranteed win, but plenty of influencers in the VALORANT space host giveaways on their chosen social media platform, often in the build-up to a new skin bundle release.

For no more than the “price” of a like, comment, and share, that sounds like a fair deal to us!

VP for free

While this won’t directly unlock free skins for your favorite guns, it’s at least a step in the right direction…

Since the days long before VALORANT, Riot Games has offered free in-game currency to those who submit drawings of the game. You’ll likely only receive 50 VP at most, so it’ll only put a dent in the cost of a new skin, but every little helps when money’s tight, right?

Here’s how you can get VP for free…

  1. Draw anything related to VALORANT - it doesn’t have to be a good drawing.
  2. Head over to VALORANT’s support page.
  3. Create a ticket under the “Purchases & In-game Content” or “General” categories.
  4. Attach your drawing.
  5. Explain why you want free VP.
  6. Submit the ticket and wait for Riot’s reply.

Best free skins

Grinding away to get all the free skins in VALORANT might work if you have access to a TARDIS and the Fountain of Youth on tap. But since we’re guessing you don’t, we thought you might want to know the best free skins worth your time and effort to obtain.

Feast your eyes on these, agent…

Free VALORANT codes for skins

Yes, Riot Games has been known to release codes that give you free skins. These tend to crop up during significant events like the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT).

To try and list codes here would be futile as they simply expire too fast.

So instead, here’s our advice – keep your ear to the ground during these big events. Typically, Riot releases these limited-time codes at the end of their trailers for major events. Stay ahead of the game and you might just grab yourself some free skins.

VALORANT, free skins, and PBE members (oh my!)

Live in North America? Play VALORANT so regularly that you dream about it eight nights a week?

Then consider joining the VALORANT Public Beta Environment (PBE). You’ll get skins free as long as they’re not categorized as Exclusive, Ultra, Battle Pass, or Limited Edition.

Free skin mods?

Yes, there are programs available that let you mod your weapons for free. No, these programs are not sanctioned by Riot. Yes, there’s every chance partaking in this kind of cheeky digital five-finger-discount devilry will land you in hot water with your favorite FPS developer.

No, we don’t recommend you try to grab free VALORANT skins via a mod like this.

Riot has released this fantastic FPS for us all to enjoy free of charge. The skin lines and other weapon mods are how they make money and continue to build on the world of VALORANT that we all love so much.

Don’t ruin that by cheating.
