What is SSL in Rocket League & how to climb there fast
Rocket League’s hardest rank explained. If you play competitive Rocket League or follow high-level gameplay, you’ve probably heard players talk about SSL. But what is SSL in Rocket League, and why is it considered such a big achievement?
This RL guide explains exactly what SSL is, how it works, how rare it is, and why reaching it is so difficult.
What is SSL in Rocket League?
SSL (Supersonic Legend) is the highest rank a player can achieve in Rocket League’s ranked playlists. There is no rank above it within the standard competitive system. Here are SSL titles you can get:
- 1 win in the same rank: White
- 3 wins in the same rank: Pink

Once you reach SSL, you are officially at the top of the matchmaking ladder. Every opponent you face is also among the best players in the world, and even small mistakes are heavily punished.
SSL was added to Rocket League in Free-to-Play Season 1 to separate elite players from Grand Champion. Before that, Grand Champion was the highest rank.
Rocket League ranks in order
Rocket League competitive ranks are:
- Bronze I–III
- Silver I–III
- Gold I–III
- Platinum I–III
- Diamond I–III
- Champion I–III
- Grand Champion I–III
- Supersonic Legend (SSL)

Every rank except SSL has three divisions. SSL has no divisions, which means once you reach it, progression is measured only by MMR, not by rank tiers.
How the SSL rank works
Rocket League uses a hidden rating called MMR (Matchmaking Rating). Your MMR increases when you win and decreases when you lose. When your MMR passes a certain threshold, you move up in rank.
SSL works differently from lower ranks:
- There is no promotion series
- There are no divisions
- Ranking is based purely on maintaining a very high MMR
Small losing streaks can drop you back to Grand Champion III
The exact MMR required for SSL changes each season and varies by playlist (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, extra modes).
Is SSL the same in every game mode?
No. SSL is playlist-specific.
You can be:
- SSL in 2v2
- Grand Champion in 3v3
- Champion in 1v1

Each ranked mode has its own MMR. Some players specialize in certain modes, such as Hoops or Duel, and reach SSL there without achieving it in Standard.
SSL rewards and titles
At the end of each season, players who reach SSL and win enough matches at that rank earn exclusive rewards, which include:
- Supersonic Legend player titles
- Seasonal cosmetic items
- Banners or decals
These rewards visibly show your achievement and are widely recognized in the community.
How many hours to hit SSL Rocket League?
Most players who reach SSL (Supersonic Legend) in Rocket League have between 3,000 and 5,000 total hours played, although this is not a fixed requirement. Some rare, highly focused players manage it in 1,500–2,000 hours, while many high-level and professional players exceed 6,000+ hours.
The wide range exists because hours alone do not guarantee improvement — reaching SSL depends heavily on the quality of practice, mechanical training, game sense development, and consistency at the Grand Champion level.
How rare is SSL in Rocket League?
SSL is extremely rare.
In most seasons, less than 0.05% of players reach Supersonic Legend. In some playlists, especially 1v1, the percentage is even lower.

To put this into perspective:
- Millions of players compete in ranked Rocket League
- Only a few thousand (or fewer) reach SSL each season
- Most players will never even reach Grand Champion
This rarity is what makes the SSL title so respected.
How to rank up from Bronze to SSL fast?
