When it comes to an insane variety of epic skins, there’s nothing like Fortnite. No other game features this many incredible crossovers and opportunities for gamers to play with a skin that reflects their passions and personality, from Star Wars to Marvel, and Stranger Things. But what are the rarest Fortnite skins?

You’re not the only one wondering!

And that’s what we’re here to reveal in this guide. From original Fortnite characters to popular crossover skins, we’ve got it all right here. But first, for the total newbies, a little context…

What makes a skin rare in Fortnite?

Generally speaking, a rare skin is one that’s not often available in the Item Shop. With new skins released on the regular, the ones available to buy at any given time are always in a state of change.

Some skins show up so often you’ll start rolling your eyes when you see them. Others don’t hit the store again for over 1,000 days, making them undeniably rare and highly coveted by the millions of Fortnite’s players.

Some rare skins had high price tags, others required you to tick the right boxes to unlock them – everything from in-game achievements to event participation and owning a Samsung Galaxy.

    Are Fortnite skins worth money?

Err, are burritos the tastiest food known to mankind?

OK, you may not agree that burritos are the best, but trust us when we say that YES, the rarest Fortnite skins are worth serious bank to plenty of people. Some sell online for hundreds, even thousands of dollars.

    Can you say, “Cha-ching!”...?

What’s important when choosing Fortnite skins?

The single most important thing is just to pick a skin that you vibe well with. Sure, maybe that’s one of the skins that made it to this list of rare skins… but maybe not. And that’s OK!

You’re the one who’ll be running around in it, so pick a skin that makes you smile. Pick the skin that makes you do your best Rocket Raccoon impression.

What is the rarest skin in Fortnite?

Here we are, about to go into a meaty top 50 list, and you just want to skip right to the top? Well… OK then, twist our arm, we’ll tell ya!

The rarest skin in Fortnite is universally considered to be either the Aerial Assault Trooper or the Renegade Rider. They’re both Fortnite original skins that predated the introduction of the Battle Pass, and haven’t been available to buy from the in-game shop since Season 1 of Chapter 1.

Anyone who invested the 1,200 V-Bucks in either of these super-ultra rare skins will be sitting pretty right now, rocking a skin that shows their long-term dedication (and undeniably fortunate timing!).

Top 20 rarest skins in Fortnite

    20. Shaman

Every now and then, the Shaman skin shows up again to give us the willies. Easily one of the most badass-looking skins in Fortnite.

    19. Omega

Omega has been a popular skin since its release, but given its five styles and colors, players with every variant in their lockers are lucky indeed!

    18. Astro Jack

Is it still considered “rare” if it’s actually bordering on banned?

    17. Rue

This skin is so rare that it’s actually banned now, which means you’re unlikely to ever get your hands on this one.

    16. Golden Peely

A golden version of Agent Peely that players could only unlock by reaching level 300 in the Battle Pass for Season 2 Chapter 2. Such a grind made this skin super rare.

    15. Special Forces

Sure, it’s technically a rare skin… but would you really want it anyway? Special Forces is one of Fortnite’s earliest skins… Epic Games has clearly learned a lot about epic skins since then!

    14. Blue Team Leader

A PlayStation exclusive that Sony gave away free back in Season 2 for its Plus members.

    13. Sledge

This skin originally hit the Fortnite store for one day only back in Season 10, but it’s come back since, and so likely will again (one day!).

    12. The Paradigm

A rare skin released in 2019, rumored to be a rogue agent tied with The Seven. No one knew at the time just how rare this valuable skin would become…

    11. Demogorgon

A limited-time release as part of Fortnite’s Stranger Things crossover event, fans have been waiting eagerly for the return of this horrific rare skin from the Upsidedown since July 2019.

    Top 10 rarest skins

    10. Eon

A limited edition rare skin that was only available as part of a promotional bundle for players who bought an Xbox One S Fortnite package. Since this promo is long since over, your only way to grab this rare skin is forking up a helluva fee to online scalpers.

    9. The Reaper

The skin looks suspiciously like a certain popular former assassin… but don’t confuse The Reaper with the John Wick skin. Yes, it was obviously based on everyone’s favorite dog avenger, but this rare skin was only available to players who hit level 100 in Season 3’s Chapter 1 Battle Pass.

    8. Royale Bomber

As part of a few PS4 bundle packs in 2018, this rare skin will set you back a pretty penny if you find anyone selling it.

    7. Honor Guard

The only way to get hold of this skin was by buying the Honor View 20 smartphone.

    6. Double Helix

A limited-edition skin bundled in with a Nintendo Switch and Fortnite package that’s no longer available. Yep, that makes this another one you’ll be forking out big real-world money for online if you want it in your locker.

    5. Black Knight

A skin that players could only earn during Season 2, Chapter 1, by reaching level 70 in Fortnite’s first Battle Pass. Which basically means only the incredibly badass long-time Fortnite player owns this rare skin.

    4. Black Widow

As if to tie in with her untimely demise in Avengers Endgame, the Black Widow skin hasn’t been seen in the Fortnite store since May 2019. Yep, we’re all still in mourning…

    3. Galaxy

Released as part of Fortnite’s partnership with Samsung Galaxy users, as a thank you for testing out Fortnite for mobile. This skin is the definition of rare.

    2. Renegade Raider

One of Fortnite’s rarest skins, only available during Season 1, Chapter 1, to those who reached level 20 and forked out 1,200 V-Bucks.

    1. Aerial Assault Trooper

Some would argue that the Renegade Rider is the rarer of these two top contenders… and we won’t argue with those people. The Trooper gets our vote of rarest skin in Fortnite though, since more people opted to grab the Renegade Raider, which makes the Trooper here a real rare sight in-game.

    FAQs

What is the 1,000th Fortnite skin?

The 1,000th skin added to Fortnite is Etheria, introduced back in May 2021. She debuted during Chapter 2, Season 6 and comes with a standard style plus an “Enchanting” variant released later.

What is considered the best skin in Fortnite?

Favorites change over time, but survey-based rankings from 2025 place Riftreaver Drift at the top, followed by Heartseeker Aphrodite, Onyx Winter, UNSC Spartan, and Punk Princess, all highly rated by the community.

    Is Fortnite giving free skins?

Fortnite occasionally offers free skins through special promotions. These typically involve completing in-game events, attending Virtual Concerts, or using reward programs like platform promotions. Regular complimentary skin drops remain rare.

Can I gift old Fortnite skins?

Yes, you can gift skins as long as both you and the recipient meet Epic’s gifting requirements—like being friends for at least 48 hours, being level 2 or higher, and having a valid payment method. If an old skin is still available in the Item Shop, it can be gifted.

    How to get free V-Bucks?

You can earn free V-Bucks mainly through the Save the World mode by completing login bonuses, daily quests, or campaign missions. Some free V-Bucks can also be earned in the Battle Pass (both free and paid tiers) each season. Beware of any offers outside the game—those are often scams.
