If you are wondering how to get Salt in Hytale, you are not alone. Salt might seem like a basic item in Hytale, but it plays an important role in your cooking and survival strategy. While it is not a rare item, it is also not something you can simply mine from the ground. Instead, Salt requires specific methods and a bit of planning.

This Hytale guide explains how to get Salt, how to process it, and how to manage it efficiently so you never run out when you need it.

    What is Salt in Hytale?

In Hytale, Salt is a food crafting ingredient mainly used at the Chef’s Stove. It is required for several cooked meals:

Salt itself is not found directly in the world. Instead, players obtain Salt Blocks, which are then processed into usable Salt. Understanding this distinction is important, because most methods give you Salt Blocks first, not the final ingredient.

How to get Salt Blocks in Hytale

There are three main ways to obtain Salt or Salt Blocks in Hytale:

    • Fishing Traps (Best and most reliable method)
    • Trading at the Forgotten Temple
    • Loot chests (Unreliable but possible)

    1. Fishing Traps

The best way to get Salt in Hytale is by using Fishing Traps.

Fishing Traps can catch more than just fish. Over time, they can also produce Salt Blocks, which you can later turn into Salt. This makes them the most consistent and renewable source.

    How do Fishing Traps work:

    • Fishing Traps are placed in water (rivers, lakes, or oceans)
    • They passively collect items over time
    • Salt Blocks are part of the possible loot pool

How to get Fishing Traps in Hytale

To get Fishing Traps in Hytale you must:

    • Craft and upgrade a Farmer’s Workbench to Tier 2.
    • Craft the Fishing Trap using:
      • 10×Any Wood
      • 50×Essence of Life
      • 20×Plant Fiber
      • 1×Iron Ingot

Place the trap in deep water to passively catch fish over time.

How to use Fishing Traps in Hytale

    After crafting the trap:

    1. Equip it in your hotbar.
    2. Place it in deep water — ideally in a river, lake, or ocean. The water needs to be natural terrain and at least a few blocks deep for the trap to work properly.
    3. Wait — the trap passively collects fish over time.
    4. Interact with the trap later to harvest fish when they appear.

    Important tips:

Build multiple traps to increase your chances

Check them often to avoid overflow

Water type does not significantly affect Salt Block drops

Fishing Traps require progression, including access to a Tier 2 Farmer’s Workbench and materials such as iron. Once unlocked, this method becomes the backbone of Salt production.

    2. Trading at the Forgotten Temple

Another way to get Salt in Hytale is through NPC trading. At the Forgotten Temple hub, certain vendors sell Salt or Salt Blocks. This method is useful early on or in emergencies, but it has clear limitations.

    Pros:

    • Immediate access
    • No crafting required

    Cons:

    • Limited stock
    • Vendors restock only after several in-game days
    • Not suitable for bulk cooking

This method is best used as a temporary solution until Fishing Traps are available.

    3. Loot chests

Salt Blocks can sometimes be found in loot chests across the world, including:

    • Ruins
    • Dungeons
    • Structures

However, this method is unpredictable. You may find Salt early by luck, or not at all for many hours. Loot should be treated as a bonus source, not a plan.

How to get Salt in Hytale: Turning Salt Block to Salt

Once you have Hytale Salt Blocks, you still need to process them. Here is how:

    • Use a Chef’s Stove
    • Place Salt Blocks into the crafting interface
    • Each Salt Block produces multiple units of Salt

Because Salt Blocks yield several Salt units, it is efficient to store blocks and process them only when needed.

Understanding how to get Salt in Hytale is essential for players who want reliable food and smoother progression. While Salt may seem simple, it is tied to systems like fishing, crafting, and base planning.

With the right setup, Salt becomes easy to manage, and once that happens, cooking in Hytale becomes far more rewarding.
