There are various items that you can craft or find in Minecraft, and saddle is one of them. The saddle is an item that lets you ride many animals. It adds new and better ways to travel and explore the blocky lands. The saddle helps you explore and travel with ease. However, you can’t craft this item, unlike others. This time, you will have to get it from somewhere and this piece explains everything you need to know about saddles in Minecraft, where to find them, and more!

Make sure to check out all recipes in Minecraft.

What is a saddle in Minecraft?

A saddle is an item that lets you ride specific animals, just like in the real world. You need a saddle to control pigs, striders, horses, donkeys, and mules. The saddle does not boost speed or jump height. It only lets you ride and steer your chosen mount. You cannot use a saddle on every animal, like how you can’t in the real world.

How to find a saddle in Minecraft: Creative and Survival Mode

Finding a saddle depends on the game mode you are currently playing. In Creative Mode, you have all items at your disposal. In Survival Mode, you must explore and take risks to find one. Below are clear methods for each mode.

    In Creative Mode

Let’s start with the creative mode, where most players build different house ideas or even complete villages.

    Unlimited Items

Creative Mode gives you all items in the inventory menu.

    Finding the Saddle

    • In the Java Edition, check the "Transportation" tab.
    • In the Pocket Edition, look under the "Tools/Equipment" section.
    • In the Console or Windows editions, search under the "Equipment" tab.

You can quickly add the saddle to your inventory without any effort.

    In Survival Mode

In Survival Mode, you must search for a saddle. There are several ways to do this:

    Dungeon Chests

    1. Explore underground dungeons.
    2. Open the chests in these dungeons.
    3. You often find a saddle in one of the chests.
    4. Watch for hostile mobs such as zombies, skeletons, and spiders that guard these areas.

    Nether Fortress Chests

    1. Build a Nether portal to reach the Nether.
    2. Search for Nether Fortresses.
    3. Open the chests in these fortresses.

    Fishing

    1. Use a fishing rod near any body of water.
    2. Cast your line and wait for bubbles to appear.
    3. When you see a pull, reel in the line quickly.
    4. You might catch a saddle. Repeat the process until you succeed.

    Trading with a Master Leatherworker

    1. Collect emeralds by mining or trading with villagers.
    2. Find a village that has a Leatherworker.
    3. Trade emeralds for a saddle.
    4. If you do not find a Leatherworker, place a cauldron near a villager to upgrade them.
    5. In the Bedrock edition, note that there is a 50% chance that the trade will be offered.

    Killing a Ravager

    1. Look for a Ravager during a raid.
    2. Defeat the Ravager in combat.
    3. A Ravager always drops a saddle upon death.

How to get a saddle using console

Players on the console version of Minecraft can use a simple command to get a saddle. This method saves time and effort. Use the command below in the game console:

    “/give [PLAYER] saddle [AMOUNT]”

    • PLAYER: Replace this with the name of the player who will receive the saddle.
    • AMOUNT: Specify the number of saddles. If you do not set a number, the game gives one saddle by default.

This command gives you the saddle directly.

    Are saddles not craftable?

Saddles are not items you can craft in Minecraft. You cannot use a crafting table or any other recipe to make one. Instead, you must find a saddle by exploring the world, trading with villagers, fishing, or defeating certain mobs. This rule adds a layer of challenge and excitement to the game. The rarity of the saddle makes it a valuable and sought-after item.

Can I ride a horse in Minecraft without a saddle?

You can sit on a horse in Minecraft without a saddle. To do this, walk up to the horse and press the use button. The horse may kick you off a few times. After a while, the horse gets used to you. Then, hearts appear, and it becomes tamed. But without a saddle, you cannot control where the horse goes. You can’t turn, move forward, or stop it. So even if the horse is tamed, you can’t ride it properly.

To ride and control a horse, you need a saddle. You cannot craft a saddle. You can only find it in places like dungeons, desert temples, bastions, or by fishing. Once you have a saddle, open the horse’s inventory while sitting on it, place the saddle in the saddle slot, and now you can ride it freely.

What mobs can you leash in Minecraft?

In Minecraft, you can leash many passive and neutral mobs. These include cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, goats, horses, llamas, cats, dogs, and bees. You can also leash iron golems and snow golems. You cannot leash enemies like creepers or zombies.

To leash a mob, right-click it with a lead. To stop it from moving, right-click a fence with the lead.

Minecraft gives many ways to enjoy the game. The saddle is a small item that makes a big difference. This item helps you ride and move faster. When you need to travel across the map, you will need a saddle at some point. Follow the guide and obtain it easily!

Onur Demirkol here, content writer for THESPIKEGG. I have been around for a very long time now, you may have seen me in the comments.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
