Playing Rocket League with friends is a lot of fun, right? But what if your friend has a different gaming console than you? In order for you to play, the game needs to support cross platform availability, and what does Rocket League say about that? We will answer all the questions you might have about it. From setting up the game to play with friends on different devices, to sharing your game items and keeping your progress the same everywhere you play. If you're picking up Rocket League for the first time or you've been playing for a while but want to connect with more friends, we've got all the info you need.

Here is everything you need to know about Rocket League’s cross platform availability and all the other details!

    Is Rocket League cross platform?

Yes, Rocket League is a cross platform game. Rocket League lets players on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This feature has its ups and downs, mainly because of the difference between a controller and using a keyboard and mouse to play it. However, you also need to keep in mind that there is a vast amount of players that use controllers even if they are on PC. Because let’s be honest, Rocket League is a lot more fun and easy when played with a controller.

It doesn’t matter if you’re playing on a computer and your friend is on a PlayStation; you guys can still team up. Ever since they made it possible to play across different devices, more people have joined the game. There was already a good chunk of player base before Epic Games introduced cross platform for Rocket League but the player base grew even better after the announcement, and more importantly, queue times went down drastically, which means players don’t need to wait a very long time to get into a game.

Rocket League is no longer officially supported on macOS. While it was previously available, support for the macOS version ended in March 2020.

    Why was support dropped?

n March 2020, the game's developer, Psyonix, ended support for Mac and Linux versions. This decision was primarily due to the small number of players on these platforms—less than 0.3% of the total player base—and the technical challenges involved in updating the game across multiple systems. As a result, online features like multiplayer matches and in-game purchases were disabled on Mac, though offline modes such as local matches and splitscreen play remain accessible.

Can you still play on Mac?

Although the official macOS version is no longer supported, there are alternative methods to play Rocket League on a Mac.

How to enable the Rocket League cross platform feature

If you’re new to Rocket League, you might not jump right into playing with friends on different devices. You need to turn this feature on first. Just like any other feature, this is also in settings and you simply have to turn it on and enjoy. Here’s how to do it:

    1. Open Rocket League on your device.
    2. Go to ‘Settings’ from the main screen.
    3. Find the ‘Gameplay’ section.
    4. There’s an option that says ‘Cross-Platform Play’. Just check the box next to it, and you’re all set!

If you ever want to turn it off, just follow the same steps and uncheck the box. Remember that turning it off might make it take longer to find games.

Can you use your inventory on another platform?

Yes, you can share your game items across different platforms! All you need to do is connect your gaming accounts to your Epic Games Account. You will be able to use all of your items things you get are shareable, but a few special items and purchased game credits stick to their original platform. Epic has a list of what you can and can’t carry to other platforms. Apart from the ones that are listed under “Not Shared” on the list below, you can share everything you have in your inventory across platforms. Here is the full list given by the company:

    Rocket League cross progression

Fortunately, Rocket League saves your game progress everywhere. Epic Games made this feature available when it decided to set the game to “free to play.” To keep your progress the same on any device, you must link your game to an Epic Games account. After that, no matter where you log in, all your achievements and items will be right there with you. Logging in is the key point here. Your progression is obviously saved to your Epic account and thanks to this feature, you can take all your progress all around the world just by putting in your credentials when you log in to play Rocket League.

Rocket League cross platform available platforms

When Epic says cross platform, it means almost all of the devices that are on the market right now. Rocket League is available on multiple different platforms, including consoles and more. Epic Games does not differentiate these devices when it comes to the cross platform support, and you can match people on consoles while you are on your PC or Mac. Here is a list of all the Rocket League cross platform available platforms:

    • PC
    • Mac
    • PlayStation 4
    • PlayStation 5
    • Xbox Series S
    • Xbox Series X

As mentioned above, turning the feature on to play with your friends who use other platforms or even shorten your queue times is not very hard. Just take a few easy steps, and you can play with anyone, share your game stuff, and keep up all your hard work no matter where you play. It doesn't matter if they're right next to you or on the other side of the world. In Rocket League, everyone gets to play together.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
