The Fortnite Rocket Launch event, also called Blast Off, took place recently and brought major changes to the game. It happened live across all servers and left a lasting impression on players. The event introduced new story elements and signaled the return of rifts on the island, but there’s more to it. Check out all the details about the Fortnite Rocket Launch event!

What is the Fortnite rocket launch event?

The Fortnite Rocket Launch was a live in-game event that took place during Chapter 1 Season 4. It was held on the OG map, Athena.

The event began with a red butterfly flying around the player, who is known as the Looper. The butterfly entered the rocket and caused it to launch. The rocket slowly rose into the air while one of its boosters detached and landed at Anarchy Acres.

As the rocket climbed higher, The Visitor spoke for the first time. He said, “Zero Point Oscillator on, Setting coordinates. Engaging quantum field accelerator.” His voice confirmed that the rocket launch was planned and part of a larger story.

Then, the rocket came back down and shot out four red beams. These beams joined into one and aimed directly at Tilted Towers. Just before impact, a rift opened and pulled the rocket away. This dramatic moment surprised players and kept them guessing.

The rocket kept moving through the sky, jumping between rifts. It appeared above different parts of the island such as Moisty Mire, Wailing Woods, Risky Reels, and Greasy Grove. Finally, it shot back into the sky and opened a giant red rift above Loot Lake. This red rift was different from the usual blue ones and was later called the Sideways Rift.

After the launch ended, smaller red rifts started to appear on the island. These rifts moved objects from the Chapter 1 map into other realities. Some known changes included:

    • The Tomato Head from Tomato Town moved to Reality: 783
    • The Durrr Burger head appeared on Blitz Royale’s Island
    • The Motel sign ended up on the world called Venture

You can compare this with the Fortnite Superman update, which also featured a major live crossover event, but this event marked the beginning of Fortnite’s multiverse concept. Find the official trailer below:

When was the Fortnite rocket launch event?

The Rocket Launch took place in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 4. It was a global, real-time event and lasted only a few minutes. Here are the key details:

    • Date: July 26, 2025
    • Time: 11:00 AM PST
    • Duration: A few minutes
    • Location: OG Athena map
    • Event Name: Blast Off

    Highlights from the event

Here are some of the highlights from Fortnite’s Rocket Launch event:

    The island is now infested

The Fortnite island has changed. It is now covered with insect nests and swarms. Players fight back with help from the O.X.R., a new military group set up to stop the bugs. Three new locations appear on the map: The Hive, O.X.R. HQ, and Ranger’s Ruin. The Hive is full of bugs and hard to survive without good weapons. The O.X.R. HQ acts as a base where you can gear up and buy gear with Bars. Ranger’s Ruin holds powerful loot, but it is also overrun with enemies.

Bug types: Swarmers, Bombers, and Queens

The bugs come in three types. Swarmers are small and fast, and they attack in large numbers. Bombers stay near nests and throw goop from a distance. They often catch players by surprise. Queens are the most dangerous. They are huge and only appear when the nest is nearly cleared. They summon more bugs and try to crush players with heavy attacks. Each Queen guards a powerful weapon and a Medallion.

    O.X.R. ranks and loot rewards

Players start each match with a C rank. As you eliminate bugs and players, your rank increases to B, A, S, and S+. With each new rank, you receive a Drop Pod filled with loot. At Rank A, you unlock bunkers with Exotic weapons. If you reach Rank S+, you receive a Drop Pod with a guaranteed Mythic weapon. This system replaced the old medal system, much like Epic Games removed Fortnite Battle Stars in Chapter 6 Season 3.

    Exotic weapons and gadgets

Once you reach higher ranks, you unlock access to new Exotic weapons. These include the Eradicator Rifle, which grows stronger after each hit, and the Double Trouble shotguns, which allow fast switching. There is also the Shock n’ Slow Launcher, which slows enemies in mid-air, and the enhanced Marksman Wrecker Revolver. You can also find the Exotic Slap Berry Fizz, which boosts energy.

The Bug Blaster is another new weapon. It fires plasma and can charge up for extra power. Later in the season, a vehicle called the Roly Poly will arrive. It lets players roll across the map at high speed.

    Hammerhead Choppa returns

The Hammerhead Choppa gives teams a new way to control the sky. It can hover in place and allows players to switch seats mid-flight. You can use it to shoot while flying or to support teammates from above.

    New boons offer power-ups

Boons are upgrades that improve gameplay. Some reduce recoil or increase your movement while aiming. Others expand your weapon magazine or show you the next storm circle. Special Super Soldier Boons unlock at higher ranks and improve sprint speed, energy, reload speed, and recoil control. At Rank S+, you get unlimited energy and full movement bonuses.

    Medallions and Mythic gear

Defeating Queen bugs earns you a Medallion and a Mythic weapon. Each Queen is tied to a specific POI:\n- The Hive Queen drops the Enhanced Wrecker Revolver and Surge Medallion (grants slide speed)\n- The Ranger’s Ruin Queen drops the Tactical Shotgun and Springleg Medallion (grants double jump)\n- The Demon’s Domain Queen drops the O.X.R. Assault Rifle and Carapace Medallion (grants health and shield regeneration)

Medallions make you stronger, but they also reveal your location on the mini-map. The more you carry, the easier it is for enemies to find you.

    Shock ‘N Awesome Battle Pass

The new Battle Pass features Power Rangers, UNSC Spartans, and other themed characters. You can unlock these by gaining XP. Players who reach Level 100 without buying the pass will still unlock the Spartan outfit later in the season. The Dino Megazord Outfit becomes available through quests starting September 16.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
