How to get iron in LEGO Fortnite
Iron is one of the late-game resources in LEGO Fortnite, so you will not find it during your first few village upgrades. To get iron in LEGO Fortnite, you need to travel to the Frostlands biome, enter an ice cave, and mine iron deposits with an Epic Pickaxe. The main challenge is not only finding the ore. You also need the right tool, enough cold resistance, and gear that can keep you alive inside Frostlands caves. Here is how to get iron and what you can do with it!
What is iron used for?
Iron is mainly used to make Iron Bars. These bars matter because many late-game recipes require them, especially stronger weapons, tools, shields, and charms.
Iron Bars are useful for items such as the Epic Longsword, Epic Knight Shield, Epic Recurve Crossbow, Epic Shovel, and several high-tier charms. They also appear in some village and travel-related recipes, so you should treat iron as a resource worth saving.
A little heads up before you use your iron: do not spend Iron Bars too quickly. If you only have a small amount, use it first on gear that improves survival or combat. A stronger weapon or shield usually gives more value than a tool you only use from time to time.

How to get iron in LEGO Fortnite
You can get iron in LEGO Fortnite by mining iron deposits inside Frostlands ice caves. These caves sit in the snowy biome, and they look like large cave entrances built into rock formations. When you find one, mark it on your map so you can return later.
Before you go inside, make sure you have an Epic Pickaxe. Lower-tier pickaxes cannot mine iron. The Epic Pickaxe requires a fully upgraded Crafting Bench, 8 Obsidian Slabs, and 5 Frostpine Rods.

This means you need to make progress in other biomes first. Obsidian comes from Dry Valley lava caves, while Frostpine comes from Frostlands trees. You need an Epic Forest Axe to cut Frostpine, so iron farming sits near the end of the normal resource path.
Use this order if you are still preparing:
- Upgrade your Crafting Bench to the highest tier.
- Get Obsidian from Dry Valley caves.
- Turn Obsidian into Obsidian Slabs with the Stone Breaker.
- Cut Frostpine in the Frostlands.
- Turn Frostpine into Frostpine Rods.
- Craft the Epic Pickaxe.
- Enter a Frostlands ice cave and mine iron.
Bring cold protection before you enter the cave. Frostlands caves can drain your health through cold damage, and enemies inside can punish weak gear. Rare Inner Fire Charms, Spicy Burgers, and Bonfires can help you survive longer.

How to make Iron Bars in LEGO Fortnite
Raw iron becomes more useful when you smelt it into Iron Bars. To do that, you need a Metal Smelter in your village.
The Metal Smelter takes time to reach because it requires advanced materials. You need Brightcore, Obsidian Slabs, and Blast Core to build it. By the time you can craft one, you should already have experience with Dry Valley caves and tougher enemies.
To make one Iron Bar, place these materials in the Metal Smelter:
- 1 Iron
- 2 Brightcore
Brightcore comes from lava caves, so collect extra while you farm Obsidian. Iron farming becomes much easier when you already have a steady supply of Brightcore ready at home.

Best tips for farming iron faster
Iron runs work best when you prepare before entering the Frostlands. Do not travel across the map, find a cave, and then realize you forgot food or the right pickaxe.
Bring healing items, cold resistance, a backup weapon, torches, and wood. Wood helps you build stairs inside caves, which makes it easier to reach ore deposits on walls or higher surfaces. Torches also help in darker cave sections.
Clear enemies before you mine. If you start mining while hostile mobs surround you, you can lose health quickly and waste your trip. Mine in batches, return to your village, smelt the iron, then go back with repaired gear.
