  1. Search Golden Chests: Golden chests are scattered across the Floating Islands. Look for them as you explore.
  2. Reach the Floating Islands: Build up using materials, use a Balloon Platform, or jump from a geyser. Using a glider makes it easier to move between islands.

Essence tomes only drop from chests in the Floating Islands. You will not find them in other locations, such as Pirate Camps or Grottos.

How to use essence tomes

Now you have tomes and while it is quite easy to use them, it can still be confusing for some. Follow these steps to unlock rune recipes:

  1. Equip the Tome: Open your inventory and place the tome in your hand.
  2. Read the Tome: Press the Fire button to read it. This action unlocks a random rune recipe.
  3. Visit the Rune Forge: Once you unlock a recipe, go to the Rune Forge. This crafting station is where you apply runes to your gear.

At the Rune Forge, you can apply up to three runes to your weapon or tool. Applying a rune costs essence, a material you collect by defeating enemies, destroying structures, or harvesting materials. Each rune has a different cost based on its rarity:

  • Common Runes: 75 Essence
  • Uncommon Runes: 110 Essence
  • Rare Runes: 150 Essence
