Many League of Legends players out there had a dream of becoming a professional player one day, or at least competing in an esports tournament. A couple of years ago, Riot Games evaluated player feedback and announced “Clash,” a league system within League of Legends. When the news first came out, some formed their teams consisting of a friend group, while others wanted to pursue their dream and find others who share the same passion. But what exactly is Clash and can it help players on their journey to go pro one day? This guide covers everything you need to know about Clash in League of Legends!

What is the Clash mode in League of Legends?

Clash is a tournament mode in which teams of five players compete in a bracket system. It takes place over weekends and includes single-elimination matches. Teams play on Summoner’s Rift and go through pick-and-ban phases like in pro play.

Each tournament lasts one or two days. A team can play up to four matches depending on wins and losses. The system places each team in a bracket based on skill level. This keeps matches fair and balanced. Players earn rewards such as capsules, banners, and logos based on how far they go.

How does Clash work in League of Legends?

Clash has a simple structure. It begins with registration and ends with rewards. Each tournament has a set date, and players can join on Saturday or Sunday.

First, players form a team of five and enter using Clash tickets. The system places them in a bracket with other teams of the same tier. Before the match, teams scout their opponents using stats and past game data. After scouting, matches begin.

Teams that win advance to the next round while teams that lose still receive smaller rewards. Each day of Clash is a separate tournament, so players can participate on both days for more chances to win.

How to join a Clash tournament in League of Legends

You can join Clash by meeting a few requirements. After that, you can build your team and enter the tournament.

    Steps to join Clash:

    1. Reach level 30.
    2. Complete your Ranked placements in Solo/Duo or Flex.
    3. Verify your account with a phone number.
    4. Get a Clash ticket.
    5. Go to the Clash tab and create or join a team.
    6. Lock in with your team before the match starts.

Once you complete these steps, your team can join the bracket and start playing.

Can you play Clash with your friends?

Yes, you can play Clash with your friends. It is actually the most common way to compete in Clash tournaments. Most players form their own teams with a unique team name and a logo, build their roster consisting of a close friend group and compete against others.

However, this isn’t the only way to compete in Clash tournaments. Even though most players choose to play with people they know, others search for a team in Discord groups or League of Legends forums. These players mostly share their preferred roles, most-player champions, and mostly their OP.GG pages allow others to check out their recent games and general stats. This way, other players who are looking for a player to fill the gap of a specific role or even a specific type of player, like a jungle player who only plays tanks, or a support player who plays Enchanter champions.

Is Clash free in League of Legends?

Clash is not fully free, but it doesn’t cost much. You need a ticket to join each tournament. There are two types: basic and premium. You can earn a basic ticket from missions or buy one with Blue Essence or Riot Points. Premium tickets cost more but give better rewards. You only need one ticket per tournament.

What does the Clash tier mean?

Clash tier shows your skill level. Riot uses ranked data to set each player’s tier. There are four tiers, and your team gets placed in a bracket based on the average of all team members. You will only face teams with similar skill levels.

Tiers also affect lock-in times. Higher-tier teams usually lock in later to avoid unfair matchups.

Do you have to be level 30 for Clash?

Yes, every player must reach level 30 before joining Clash. This rule ensures that all players have enough game experience. You also need to finish Ranked placements to prevent smurfing and unfair matchmaking.

    How does Clash Lock-in work?

Lock-in is the step before matches start. Riot uses this to check if all players are ready. The lock-in phase opens 30 minutes before the tournament starts. Each team member must go to the Clash tab and press the “Lock In” button.

If anyone misses it, the team will not join the bracket. Riot will refund the ticket. Once everyone locks in, the system builds the bracket, and matches begin shortly after.

In short, a very high percentage of players look at Clash as a fun game mode that helps players compete against others in a more competitive way, rather than a normal 5v5 game. While it doesn’t really create the same competitive environment as pro players, in terms of rewards, opportunities, and resources, you could easily have a very fun time with your friends in a more serious and professional manner. If you have a competitive spirit and friends who share a similar passion, Clash is a must-try for you!
