Fireworks are the representatives of celebration and good energy. Minecraft, though, has more benefits and attributes that players will benefit from later in the game. They shine in the sky with vivid colors and create moments of wonder. Rockets help players glide with Elytra and serve as strong crossbow ammunition. Here is everything you need to know about the firework recipe in Minecraft and all the other details about this item!

What is a firework in Minecraft?

A firework rocket is an item that creates decorative explosions in the sky. It helps boost a player when they fly with Elytra wings. It also works as ammunition for crossbows. The rocket’s effects depend on its design. You mix gunpowder, paper, and dyes to create it.

How to make a firework in Minecraft

Start with the basics. A simple firework rocket needs paper and gunpowder. You will also create a firework star to add special effects. Follow these steps:

    Make a firework star

    1. Combine 1 gunpowder with one or more dyes. You can use up to 8 dyes to mix colors.
    2. Add glowstone dust for a twinkle effect.
    3. Add a diamond if you want a trailing effect.
    4. For a fade effect, mix the finished star with a matching dye.

    Change the explosion shape

    • Use a gold nugget for a star shape.
    • Use a feather for a burst shape.
    • Use a fire charge for a large ball shape.
    • Use a head or skull for a creeper face shape.
    • Hover over the firework star in the crafting table to view the effect.

    Craft the firework rocket

    • Combine the firework star with 1 paper and 1 to 3 gunpowder in the crafting table.
    • Use extra gunpowder to extend the rocket’s flight time.
    • Make paper from sugar cane. Hunt creepers, ghasts, or witches to obtain gunpowder.

How to make an NYE firework show in Minecraft

An NYE firework show creates a bright display at night and it was also covered by Mojang in an official post. You can use dispensers and redstone circuits to launch fireworks in a planned sequence. Use these steps to set up your own show:

    Build and place a dispenser

    • Craft a dispenser by placing a bow in the center, redstone dust below it, and filling the other slots with cobblestone.
    • Dig a small hole in the ground and set the dispenser inside.

    Set up the redstone circuit

    • Craft a redstone comparator using 1 nether quartz, 3 redstone torches, and 3 stones.
    • Lay a trail of redstone dust on the ground.
    • Connect the dispenser to the redstone fuse with this dust.
    • Place the redstone comparator at the end of the fuse and turn it on.

    Add a firing mechanism

    • Extend the redstone line with more dust to form a loop that touches the comparator on all sides.
    • Craft a lever from a stick and cobblestone and place it next to the comparator.
    • Wait for nightfall or use the command “/time set midnight” to change the time.
    • Flip the lever to start the chain reaction and launch the fireworks.

    Benefits of fireworks in Minecraft

While the main reason for making fireworks in Minecraft is either for a visual show or to fly with Elytra, there are other benefits too. Here is a detailed list:

    Visual appeal

    • Fireworks create bright bursts of color that decorate the night sky.
    • They let you celebrate special events with a festive atmosphere.

    Hostile effects

    • When placed on the ground, they produce a vertical burst.
    • When used in a dispenser, the rocket flies in the direction the dispenser faces.
    • As crossbow ammunition, a rocket with an explosion effect adds extra damage in combat.

    Fly with Elytra

    • Fireworks boost your speed when you use Elytra wings.
    • They extend the glide time and allow you to travel longer distances.
    • They help you adjust your flight path with extra momentum.

    Other uses

    • Villagers may celebrate a village raid by launching fireworks.
    • The variety of effects (twinkle, trail, fade) lets you customize your display.

What is the strongest firework you can make in Minecraft?

The strongest firework rocket uses seven firework stars. This recipe gives a rocket that deals up to 19 damage, roughly equal to nine and a half hearts. You make each star with gunpowder and one dye. You may add glowstone dust, diamond, or a mob skull to enhance the effect.

    Rocket propel for Elytra

Firework rockets can boost your Elytra flight. They help you fly faster and cover long distances. Use these steps to propel yourself:

    1. Wear your Elytra wings: Ensure that you equip your Elytra properly. The wings must be in your chest slot.
    2. Stock your hot bar: Place several firework rockets in your hot bar. This gives you ready access during flight.
    3. Find a high launch point: Choose a mountain or a tall structure. Run toward the edge and jump to start gliding.
    4. Deploy your wings: On PC, press the spacebar. On consoles, use the designated button. The wings will open, and you will begin to glide.
    5. Launch a firework rocket: While gliding, use the firework rocket. On PC, right-click to fire the rocket. On other platforms, press the proper control button.
    6. Listen for the rocket sound and watch for the burst of white effects behind you.
    7. Maintain speed: When you lose speed, use another rocket. This action keeps your flight steady and extends your glide.
    8. Safety first: Test your timing in a safe area. Learn the right moment to use each rocket to avoid sudden falls.

Which firework is best for crossbows?

The best firework for crossbows is one that has an explosion effect. This effect adds extra damage when the rocket hits a target. A longer flight time also makes the rocket travel farther.

Apart from their effect on crossbows and Elytra, fireworks bring energy and fun to the game. They are a classic in real life as the representative of celebration and they are very easy to craft in the game too.

How to make duration 3 fireworks

To make duration 3 fireworks, use one paper and three gunpowder. Place them on the crafting table. This gives you a firework rocket that flies for about three seconds. The number of gunpowder pieces controls the flight time. One gunpowder gives a short flight. Two gives a medium one. Three gives the longest. This firework does not explode unless you add a firework star. If you only want to fly with elytra or shoot simple rockets, you don’t need the star. Just use paper and gunpowder.

    Can you craft fireworks stars?

Yes, you can craft firework stars. Use one gunpowder and one dye. The dye sets the color of the explosion. You can also add glowstone dust to make it sparkle or a diamond to leave a trail. After you craft the star, use it with paper and gunpowder to make a firework rocket with effects. The star gives the color and style. The gunpowder sets how long the rocket flies. You can’t reuse stars, so you need a new one for each firework.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
