What is the Killer Bunny in Minecraft and how to get it
Minecraft has many strange mobs, but few have the same reputation as the Killer Bunny. This hostile rabbit variant became famous because it looks small and harmless, yet it can attack fast and hit hard. In the current vanilla Minecraft, players cannot find it through setting up a regular world. The mob still exists in Java Edition, but only through commands. Here is what the Killer Bunny in Minecraft is and how to get it!
What is the Killer Bunny in Minecraft?
The Killer Bunny is a special rabbit variant that exists only in Minecraft Java Edition. It has white fur, red horizontal eyes, and a visible nameplate that reads “The Killer Bunny.” Unlike normal rabbits, it acts as a hostile Minecraft mob. It chases players, wolves, and foxes instead of running away. That alone makes it very different from the standard rabbit types players see in normal biomes.
The mob also has a strong place in Minecraft history. Mojang added it as a dangerous joke mob, and many players still remember the shock of seeing a rabbit turn into a real threat. Even though it no longer appears naturally, it is still a part of the game’s code and command system.
That is why the Killer Bunny still gets attention today. Some players remember it from older versions, while others discover it through commands, videos, or mods. It remains one of Minecraft’s best-known hidden mobs.

How do you get the Killer Bunny in Minecraft?
In modern vanilla Minecraft, you can only get the Killer Bunny in Java Edition with a command. The summon command is:
- /summon rabbit ~ ~ ~ {RabbitType:99}

What does the Killer Bunny do?
There are some points that you need to consider before you type the command above. Because beware, once it appears, it behaves nothing like a normal rabbit. If a player comes within 16 blocks, it rushes forward faster than a standard rabbit and jumps in to attack.
On Normal difficulty, it deals 8 damage. If it cannot find a player, it targets foxes and wolves, including tamed wolves. It also ignores the Thorns enchantment, which makes it more dangerous in close fights
The Killer Bunny does not despawn on Peaceful, although it stops attacking players there. It can also be leashed, bred, and tempted with carrots despite its hostile behavior. If you want Killer Bunnies to appear in a regular world, you need a mod, data pack, or add-on, because vanilla Survival does not offer a normal way to get or spawn one.
How rare is Killer Bunny?
The Killer Bunny is not naturally obtainable at all. That means its practical spawn rate is zero unless you use commands. So for most players, it is even more than being rare; it is literally unavailable through normal play.
Before Mojang removed natural spawning, the Killer Bunny was already extremely uncommon. At one point, its spawn rate dropped from 1 in 1000 rabbits to 1 in 2500.
When were Killer Bunnies removed from Minecraft?
Killer Bunnies were removed from natural spawning in snapshot 14w34a. Mojang did not delete the mob completely, but it stopped appearing as part of normal gameplay. That is an important difference, because players can still summon it with commands in Java Edition today.
The main reason for the change was design. Mojang felt the Killer Bunny acted too much like a random death event and no longer fit the rules they wanted for mob behavior. Since then, the mob has stayed in Minecraft as a hidden feature that many new players aren’t even aware of.
