Campfires are one of those Minecraft items that you will need at some point in your saves. They can be used for different reasons, whether you are cooking or trying to send a signal. Moreover, you can build two different campfires and if you have any questions, we are here to answer all of them. This piece goes over the campfire recipe in Minecraft and more details!

What is a campfire in Minecraft?

A campfire is a block that players use in many ways. It helps to cook food and calm bees. It gives off a bright light. It sends up a cloud of smoke that can serve as a signal. The campfire can also hurt mobs that come too close. The way it is built stops fire from spreading to nearby blocks.

How do I make a campfire in Minecraft?

To craft a campfire, you must use a 3x3 grid on a crafting table. Follow these clear steps to complete the recipe. You have two choices for one ingredient: you can use coal or charcoal. The method is the same in both cases.

    Open the Crafting Menu

    • Stand near a crafting table and open it to see the 3x3 grid.

    Arrange the Ingredients

    1. You need three sticks, one piece of coal or charcoal, and three pieces of wood (logs).
    2. In the first row, place one stick in the center box.
    3. In the second row, put one stick in the left box, one piece of coal or charcoal in the middle box, and one stick in the right box.
    4. In the third row, fill each box with one log. You may use any type of wood.

    Check the Pattern

    • Make sure that the items match the pattern exactly. An error in placement will not show the campfire in the result box.

Move the Campfire to Your Inventory

    • Once the campfire appears in the result box, drag it to your inventory.

How to make a soul campfire in Minecraft

A soul campfire has a different look and extra effects. The flame it shows is soft turquoise, and it harms mobs more than a normal campfire. That is the biggest difference. It is very similar to a regular campfire, only a few items change. Follow these steps to craft one:

    Open the Crafting Menu

    • Use your crafting table to see the 3x3 grid.

    Gather the Required Items

    • You need one stick, one block of soul sand or soul soil, and three pieces of wood.
    • The wood may come from any log, stem, or even the stripped versions. You may also use wood from hyphae.

Arrange the Items in the Grid

    1. In the first row, place one stick in the center slot.
    2. In the second row, put the soul sand or soul soil in the center slot.
    3. In the third row, fill all three slots with your chosen wood piece.

    Finish the Crafting Process

    • When the items are placed correctly, the soul campfire appears in the result box.
    • Move it to your inventory to complete the process.

What is the difference between campfire and soul campfire?

A regular campfire gives off bright flames and a high level of light. It works well for cooking food and sending clear smoke signals. A soul campfire shows a soft, turquoise flame and gives a lower light level. It hurts mobs more than a regular campfire. Players choose one or the other based on their light, aesthetics, and defense needs.

Do campfires need silk touch in Minecraft?

Campfires can be crafted by players or found in some village houses. They act as a chimney in these structures. When you break a campfire without a tool that has the Silk Touch enchantment, it drops charcoal instead of the campfire block. To collect a campfire as a block, you must use a tool with Silk Touch.

What enchantment doesn’t go with silk touch?

The Fortune enchantment does not work with Silk Touch. When both are applied by commands, Silk Touch takes over for blocks that are affected by both enchantments. You cannot put Silk Touch on swords or fishing rods in normal gameplay. Players must choose the best enchantment for the task at hand.

How to use campfires in Minecraft?

Campfires have many uses in Minecraft. They provide light and heat without a fuel cost. Below are some of the main ways to use campfires:

    Light and Cooking

    • A lit campfire gives a bright light. The normal campfire has a light level of 15. A soul campfire gives a light level of 10.
    • Campfires start lit when you place them. You can relight them by striking them with flint and steel or by using fire charges and flaming arrows.
    • You can place up to four food items on a campfire. The campfire cooks the food at the same time. Each batch takes about 30 seconds.

    Extinguishing the Fire

    • You can put water in the same block space as the campfire. A splash water bottle or a shovel can also put out the flames.
    • In Bedrock Edition, placing a water source or letting water flow above the campfire also works.

    Smoke Signals and Signals

    • Campfires send up a cloud of smoke that rises about 10 blocks.
    • If you put a hay bale under the campfire, the smoke rises up to 24 blocks. This extra smoke makes it easier to spot the fire from far away.

    Damage to Mobs

    • When a campfire is lit, it hurts any mob that stands on it. The regular campfire gives 1 heart of damage per tick. A soul campfire gives 2 hearts per tick.
    • This damage is reduced by armor and certain potions. Players may avoid the damage by wearing fire-resistant gear or drinking a potion of fire resistance.

    Other Uses

    • Campfires work with hoppers. If you break a campfire, the dropped items may be pulled into a hopper below.
    • A campfire placed under a beehive helps calm the bees. This trick lets you collect honey without angering the bees.
    • In some versions, campfires work with note blocks to create special sounds.
    • A soul campfire can also change soul sand into soul soil if it is broken without Silk Touch.

    Are campfires infinite in Minecraft?

Yes, campfires are infinite in Minecraft. They do not need fuel to keep burning. After you light a campfire, it stays on until something puts it out. You do not need to add coal or wood. This makes campfires a good way to light up your area or cook food. You can turn them off with water, rain, or a shovel. If you want to light them again, you can use flint and steel or a fire charge.

Does campfire smoke go through blocks?

Campfire smoke goes through blocks if the block is not solid. It can pass through blocks like glass or fences. It cannot go through blocks like dirt or stone. You can use a hay bale under the campfire to make the smoke rise higher. This helps if you want to use the smoke as a signal. Without a hay bale, smoke rises up to 10 blocks. With a hay bale, it rises up to 24 blocks. Make sure there is nothing blocking the smoke above the fire.

Does rain put out campfires in Minecraft?

Yes, rain puts out campfires if they are under the open sky. If you want the campfire to stay on during rain, you need to cover it. You can place a slab or any block above it. That way, the fire stays lit even when it rains. If rain puts it out, you can light it again after the rain stops.

Campfire is one of the most basic items to make in Minecraft. They cook food, light up areas, and mark bases with smoke. Players use both regular and soul campfires, mainly for safety differences. Follow the steps to easily craft these items.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
