Ground loot is one of the most important things in battle royale games, especially if you land into an area known for early battles. You can find these items across the map, inside Supply Boxes, or beside eliminated players. The exact pool changes between seasons and playlists, so some items may appear in one mode but stay unavailable in another. In this piece, we will explain to you everything you need to know about ground loot in Warzone!

What is ground loot in Warzone?

Ground loot means any weapon or item that you find during a Warzone match instead of bringing it through a custom loadout. A rifle sitting on a table counts as ground loot. The same applies to a Smoke Grenade from a Supply Box or an Armor Plate dropped by another player.

Ground loot weapons use builds chosen by the game. You cannot select their attachments before picking them up, so check the optic, magazine, recoil, and intended range.

Regular Battle Royale and Resurgence let you replace ground loot with custom weapons later. Black Ops Royale works differently. It has no Loadouts, Buy Stations, cash, or Gulag, so players must find and improve their equipment during the match.

All item groups you can find on the ground in Warzone

Warzone ground loot includes more than weapons. You can find resources that restore your armor, support your squad, reveal enemies, or give you another way to survive the gas.

The exact loot pool changes between modes and seasonal updates. An item available in regular Battle Royale may not appear in Resurgence or Black Ops Royale.

Here are the main types of ground loot:

    • Weapons: Guns from several weapon classes can appear loose on the map or inside Supply Boxes. They come with attachments selected by the game.
    • Ammunition: Each ammo type supports certain weapon classes. You automatically collect compatible ammunition when you move over it, unless your reserves are full.
    • Armor Plates: Plates restore your armor after taking damage. Armor Satchels and other armor upgrades may also appear in supported modes.
    • Cash: You can spend cash at Buy Stations in Battle Royale and Resurgence. Black Ops Royale does not use cash or Buy Stations.
    • Tactical equipment: Smoke Grenades, Recon Drones, and similar items can hide movement or provide information.
    • Lethal equipment: Thermite, Frag Grenades, Semtex, mines, and other lethal items can damage enemies or block an entrance.
    • Field Upgrades: Utility Boxes and other Field Upgrades provide ammunition, armor, protection, or temporary support.
    • Killstreaks: Some Supply Boxes and high-tier loot sources can contain reconnaissance or attack Killstreaks.
    • Perks: Certain contracts and Legendary Supply Boxes can reward lootable Perks.
    • Survival items: Gas Masks and redeployment items can keep you alive or bring a squad member back.
    • Attachment Kits: Black Ops Royale uses Attachment Kits to raise the rarity of your equipped weapon and add its next preset attachment.

The Season 5 Battle Royale and Resurgence pool includes Utility Boxes, Recon Drones, Thermite, and Smoke Grenades. The same update removed Ammo Boxes, Armor Boxes, Drill Charges, and Stim Shots from those regular loot pools.

Current Warzone ground loot weapon examples

The weapon pool rotates regularly, so the guns below should work as current examples rather than a permanent list.

    Weapon

    Class

    Confirmed ground loot use

    MK35 ISR

    Assault rifle

Added to Battle Royale, Resurgence, and Black Ops Royale rotations

    Voyak KT-3

    Assault rifle

Added as ground loot in regular modes and replaced the MXR-17 in Black Ops Royale

    VST

    Submachine gun

Added to regular ground loot and replaced the Kogot-7 in Black Ops Royale

    Sniper rifle

Replaced the Shadow SK in the Battle Royale and Resurgence weapon pool

    Swordfish A1

    Marksman rifle

Added to Black Ops Royale with Scout and Widow builds

    FG42

    Assault rifle

Added to Black Ops Royale in Season 5 with CQB and Recon builds

    Gremlin

    Submachine gun

Added to Black Ops Royale in Season 5 with Burner and Stalker builds

    vs recon
    swordfish a1
    voyak kt3
    vst
    mk35
    gremlin
    fg42

The FG42 replaced the EGRT-17 in the Black Ops Royale ground loot pool, while the Gremlin replaced the Ryden 45K. These replacements show why a permanent weapon list can become outdated after one seasonal patch.

You may also find shotguns, LMGs, pistols, launchers, and other weapon classes during a match. Their spawn rates can differ between playlists, so you should not expect every weapon type to appear equally often.

Black Ops Royale uses this five-level path:

    Rarity

    Color

    Common

    Grey

    1

    Uncommon

    Green

    2

Ground loot vs loadout weapons in Warzone

Ground loot weapons come from the match pool and use fixed builds. Custom loadout weapons use the attachments, optic, and magazine that you selected before the match.

A custom loadout gives you more control, but some ground loot builds can still compete when their range and recoil suit the fight. Keeping one can also save cash or keep you away from a contested Loadout Drop.

How to choose the best ground loot during a match

Use these checks before replacing your current equipment:

    1. Take a reliable gun quickly. A basic SMG or assault rifle gives you a chance in the first fight.
    2. Cover two ranges. Pair a close-range gun with a weapon that can handle longer sightlines.
    3. Check the magazine and optic. Both can change how well a preset build works for you.
    4. Keep armor and ammo stocked. Strong weapons cannot cover missing plates or empty magazines.
    5. Choose equipment for your route. Smoke can cover open ground, while lethal equipment can protect rooms and stairs.
    6. Share extra supplies. Give teammates plates, ammunition, cash, or equipment when they need them.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
