Feeling like Aquaman?Enchantments in Minecraft are usually very beneficial as they strengthen your weapon, armor, or character in general. Impaling is one of the best enchantments for underwater fights and you can only use it on a trident. It lets you deal more damage to certain mobs and is considered one of the most popular enchantments in the game. In this piece, we go over what Impaling is in Minecraft, its stats, and all of the other important information you need to know about it!
What is Impaling?
Impaling is an enchantment that you can apply only to a trident. It increases the damage your trident deals to certain mobs. It is useful when fighting in water or during rain.
The enchantment has five levels. The higher the level, the more damage you deal. Impaling works well in ocean biomes, rivers, or against mobs that live underwater. It is helpful in survival mode, especially when exploring deep areas.

What does Impaling do in Minecraft?
Impaling increases the attack power of a trident. It does more damage when used under certain conditions. The effects of Impaling depend on which Minecraft version you are playing.
In Java Edition, Impaling only works on aquatic mobs. These include:
- Axolotls
- Dolphins
- Guardians
- Elder Guardians
- Squid
- Glow Squids
- Turtles
- All fish types
It does not affect drowned mobs because they count as undead, not aquatic.
In Bedrock Edition, Impaling works on all mobs and players that are in contact with water. It includes mobs underwater, standing in water, or getting hit during rain. This version of the enchantment is more flexible than in Java.
Each Impaling level adds 2.5 points of extra damage. That means Impaling V gives you 12.5 extra damage. This can help you kill mobs faster and stay safe during fights.

In Java Edition, Impaling V affects only aquatic mobs. In Bedrock Edition, it affects all mobs and players in water or rain. It is very useful for fighting guardians, elder guardians, and other sea mobs. It also helps in rainy conditions in Bedrock.
How rare is Impaling 5?

You can also get it by:
- Finding enchanted books in loot chests

- Trading with librarian villagers
- Combining lower-level Impaling books using an anvil
Using a grindstone to reset enchantments and trying again is another option

Does Impaling work in the rain?
In Bedrock Edition, yes. Impaling works on any mob that is standing in the rain. It also works on players during storms. This makes Impaling more useful in outdoor fights.
In Java Edition, rain has no effect. The enchantment only boosts damage against aquatic mobs, even during rainfall.
Impaling is a powerful enchantment that makes tridents stronger in specific conditions. Depending on your version, it helps you deal more damage in water or when it rains. Impaling V gives the biggest boost and works best when exploring oceans or fighting underwater mobs.
