How to change your avatar in Roblox
Thanks to an update, Roblox players have been allowed to change their avatars within the game, without leaving it. That sounds simple, but there is one detail that matters a lot. Avatar Switcher does not change your character live in the middle of gameplay. Here is what that is and how to switch your avatar in Roblox!
What is the Avatar Switcher in Roblox?
The Avatar Switcher in Roblox is an in-game feature that lets you swap between avatars from the game menu. It exists to keep players inside the experience instead of forcing them to leave just to change outfits. Roblox released the in-game Avatar Switcher on February 4, 2026, after first announcing it in 2025.
In supported games, you open the menu, pick another avatar, and then apply that change through a respawn option. If a game uses custom-only avatars and does not support Roblox avatars, the switcher stays disabled. Some of the best Roblox games already support this feature.

How to switch avatar in Roblox
If the game supports Avatar Switcher, here is how to switch your avatar in Roblox:
- Open the in-game menu.
- Go to the Switch avatar section.
- Pick the avatar you want to use.
- Choose Switch and Respawn Now or Switch on Next Respawn.
How do you switch your avatar to R15?
If you want to switch to R15, you need to understand that this is not just an outfit choice. R15 is a character rig with 15 visible parts and more joints than the older R6 rig, so it supports more detailed movement and animation. Whether your avatar actually appears as R15 depends on the experience. Some games allow Player Choice, some force Standard R15, and some still limit how avatars behave.
This helps avoid breaking games that rely on specific gameplay states, animations, or character rules. It also makes the feature feel more predictable.
Why can’t you change your avatar in Roblox?
If you do not see Avatar Switcher in Roblox, the reason is usually one of these:
- The experience does not support respawn, so the feature cannot apply the change right away.
- The game uses a custom-only avatar system instead of normal Roblox avatars. In that case, the switcher is disabled.
- The experience only supports part of the platform avatar system, so your selected avatar may show with limits or a modified preview.
- Your change may be waiting for the next respawn instead of applying instantly.
Avatar Switcher vs Avatar Editor in Roblox
Avatar Switcher and Avatar Editor do not do the same job. Avatar Switcher is for fast in-game swapping in supported experiences. Avatar Editor is where you actually build and adjust your look, including clothing, body options, and worn items. If you want the smoothest result, create the avatar you want first, save that look, then use Avatar Switcher in games that support it.
For most players, that is the easiest way to think about it. Avatar Editor is where you prepare the look. Avatar Switcher is where you apply that look without leaving the game.
